A Wiekhorst rents the hotel in Potter and plans to open on November 3 or 4. The Wiekhorst family is highly respected, and the public is assured of fair and honest treatment in the new operation.
Wm H Grosze begins a first class five room cottage opposite the Lutheran church with porches and finishing touches. Lewis Lafferty starts a new up-to-date cottage in the north part of town. The column argues Potter will rapidly build up, driven by farming strength and local publicity.
Gov Morehead designates Friday November 7 as State Fire Day urging all schools to observe with appropriate exercises. Pine Bluffs Post notes J A Woten of Potter Nebraska purchased the Stevens building on Main Street and was in town last Tuesday.
Several huskies attended the first signal drill of the season showing a heavier fast team with ex college players and new men added in weight. The public is invited next Sunday at 2 o'clock to watch. The first line up included Miller at left end Karlson at left tackle Hansen at left guard Woten at center G Nelson at right guard E Nelson at right tackle Clausen at right end Barth at quarterback Babcock at left half Hard at right half Gowin at full back.
Neighbors gathered at Peter Hansens then moved in a body to H P Petersens home for a surprise party celebrating the sixth anniversary of the Petersens marriage and Mrs Petersens birthday. Games followed by refreshments included cake coffee sandwiches and pickles. An offer for a free Nebraska Farm Journal subscription appears.
We thank the many kind neighbors and friends for assistance and sympathies during the sad hours of bereavement in the sudden death of a Joying son and brother George Schrear Henry Schrear Rebecca Schrear.
Art Thurman and wife moved into 8S Rv Wisner's ranch and will reside in Banner county while Mr Wisner is in Florida. Vin Waitman left for Cheyenne after a two week visit. Forest Redge visited his sister Mrs Vern Waitman after working at McGrew's. Mrs Harvie Wyat and Miss Fry of Harrisburg spent Sunday at P P Waitman's. Walter Mohrs' team broke a buggy on return home but no injuries. W J Seeley of Milford visited Vern Waitman and viewed the Ridge place crop. later returned from Harrisburg. A Saturday dance at Redington drew a large crowd. Lindburg ranch house carpenters finished and O H Hensen moved in Friday.
Oliver Stevens and J F Wildman worked on road north of Stevens house as Dix residents report daily tasks. Cars load wheat at Dix, corn hauled by Andy Ross with help from Louis Nelson and Alfred Peterson. Public crossing planned one mile east of Dix. Several residents travel, visit, or attend sales in Kimball and Blair. Maud Peterson on sick list. Local businesses prepare for winter. H Petersen & Sons offer stove grates.
State board of agriculture reports 1913 sugar beet acreage at 22 946 acres with Scotts Bluff County accounting for 13 699 acres. The following counties show acreages exceeding 400 acres in sugar beet culture.
The community mourns the sudden death of Mrs. Tom Quinn Sr from a carbolic acid mistake in early Friday, after 25 years on the divide near the old Pomeroy ranch. Funeral services were held Monday at the Catholic church in Sidney with interment in Sidney cemetery. Mrs. Quinn leaves a husband and three sons, Tommy Edward and John, all well known in the area.
The Philomathean Society invites all to a Friday afternoon Bryant program in remembrance of William Cullen Bryant whose birthday falls in the same week. The meeting aims to be engaging with attendance encouraged to help make it interesting.
Petersen and Sons offer Prest-O-Lite tanks available for sale or exchange. Local shop advertises steady stock and prompt service for motorists and garages seeking storage or replacement cylinders.
Noted threshing and hauling activity as Heimer and Nelson clean up fields this week. Roy MacAdam shipped a car of spuds to Cheyenne and threshing continued with flax and wheat. Local visits include Hurd, Courtright, and Goding families. a new son born to Will Godling and family. and funeral attendance for the Quinn and Hurd families.
