Wheat has declined in Omaha and Denver over several days and indications point to a drop to 50 cents per bushel on local markets. Farmers are advised to market wheat soon to capture current favorable prices.
A short humorous piece remarks that men are defined by whom women marry and joke about their habits and religiosity. It notes men drink smoke and swear yet seldom attend church, contrasts with women, and ends with a quip about monkeys, attributing both genders to origins in a playful tone.
About 20 000 will register across three designated sites with each person facing roughly 40 chances. Railroads are not required to take chances. Over 15 000 already registered and another 5 000 expected next week. Registration period spans 12 days and is projected to raise at least $120 000.
A notice warns that the Continental Motor Cyde and Boat Co of Trenton Michigan is fraudulent. It alleges they arranged with multiple Nebraska and other state newspapers for ten weeks of ads, then disappeared, leaving printers unpaid. Readers are urged to report any new address or altered firm name to aid press and government authorities.

Irene Lawrence dressmaker. Dr Ames office advertises. Wm Bundy offers auto robes. A Woten returns from eastern points. Gowin honored by W O W with watch. Elmer Hicks promotes excavating and hauling services. Miss Mary Nelson joins Sidney visitors for a weekend dance. Arvel Johnson and others listed as going next week. Gustafson heads to Long Beach for possible relocation.
At the public school meeting last Friday the high school literary society chose the name Philomathian with motto Honore ed labore and colors red and white along with the American beauty rose as flower. The next program Friday October 2 at 3 15 PM will debate the woman suffrage question, with speculation of Pankhursts among attendees. The note also reports the school closed Wednesday afternoon for coal shortages and other items from the Potter area including editor notes and local commentary.
William Schrear died suddenly in North Platte on October 7 1913 aged 41. Born January 9 1872 in Logan County Illinois he moved with his parents to Cheyenne County in 1888 then settled in North Platte. He leaves a father a brother Henry a sister Rebecca and many relatives. The burial was in Potter with a Lutheran service conducted by Rev T A Kerr using Psalm 30 5 Weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. The bereaved have the community’s sympathy.
A letter complains that American men reject French styles and call for sensible American dress for women and girls. The author denounces Paris fashions as vulgar and links them to rising crimes, urging a return to traditional attire and moral standards.
A large crowd gathered at the Grubb home for a farewell dance honoring Mr. and Mrs. Grover Thompson. Neighbors recall a lively evening before the couple departs for Glen doe Wyoming to start a new home. Local activity includes threshing, potato digging, and visits among families like Smiths and Bed families in Pleasant View and Goodland.
M J Johnson in Potter drove fast causing the horses hitched to a sand load to bolt and ram a wheel over Elmer Hicks injuring him internally. Dr. Ames attended Hicks at the scene or later as needed.
