Nebraska's oil industry shows growth as a well dries at Falls City and another is reported near Galatia. Producers at Paris City pursue the $15,000 reward from the granting body for the first paying well, signaling rising crude wealth in the region.
Pastor C R Tanner invites all to a special 8:00 o'clock worship service honoring Fathers and Sons. Rev Schwabauer of Sidney will speak, Potter school male quintet and senior choir will sing, followed by a men and boys gathering with refreshments. ladies' banquet to come later. Public invited.
The Rainbow 4-H Club met with Wilma Thies on November 11. Officers elected were President Mary Hermansen Vice President Carole Hicks and Secretary Delores Coulter. The year’s project is Girls Room. No lunch will be served in winter. Next meeting set for December 9 with Jean Goding.
The W C T U met at Mrs Jennie McAdam’s home on Wednesday with twenty attendees. Mrs Sloan led a thoughtful program featuring Thanksgiving decorations and reflections. Mrs McAdam and Mrs Huff provided pumpkin pie, whipped cream, wafers, and coffee. The next gathering is planned for January at Mrs A M Connell’s home.
Neighbors surprised Mrs. Theodore Carlson on Sunday November 12 for her birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs Gilbert Hougen, Mr and Mrs George Ransom, Mr and Mrs Wim Benish, Mr and Mrs Arthur Elmquist and family, Mr and Mrs Arthur Johnson, and Mr and Mrs Andy Rapp of Sidney.
Coach Arthur Barrett traveled to Lincoln last weekend accompanied by Miss Maxine Gibbs Benny Her beldsheimer Miss Delores Nelson Miss Maxine Pool and Miss Buler. Buler and Pool teach in Kimball. Benny visited his brother Kin ley while Delores called on her sister in Plattsmouth.
Mr and Mrs L V Myers and their son spent the week end visiting relatives at Broken Bow Nebraska.
Volunteer workers promote the annual Red Cross enrollment reporting heavy response from nearly everyone approached. Annual membership is one dollar with part staying in the local treasury and the rest going to the national treasury. The drive canvasses the community and town, and if missed, dollars can be left at the bank for proper credit.
Hugh McFadden and wife moved into the Rasmussen house Saturday. Lloyd Shaw and family spent Sunday at the Cecil Wyckoff home. Roy Keener visited his parents at Brush, Colorado, returning Tuesday morning. Ray Gunderson installed a stove in his house Tuesday. The Jacinto club met with Mrs Elwood Harms last Friday afternoon and a delicious lunch was served. Wd Buettner of North Platte and family spent Sunday at the E E Goding home. Mr and Mrs Gee, Jackson and Phillip went to the W Matthewson home Tuesday for the twentieth wedding anniversary. Clayton Spencer and family spent the week end in Denver. E E Goding were Scottsbluff callers Saturday. Mr and Mrs Charley Reddy moved to Sidney Monday. Paul Wistrom and family moved into the Maddock House. Tuesday Mrs Geo Smith visiting Kimball for a few days. She returned to Kimball Monday.
Alec Spencer visited the Fred Prince home on Wednesday while Fred Prince and family hosted Freda and others. The Prince couple plus Freda attended the Fank Creek Jr. home on Friday. Fred Prince helped Alex Spencer repair a windmill Friday. Sunday guests included Mr and Mrs George Ransom at the Fred Prince residence and later a Dalton visit to the Henry Peterson home.
The American Legion and Auxiliary held a joint meeting at the school house on Wednesday evening. A covered dish supper accompanied a general discussion on child welfare and how the groups could assist children needing medical dental or other vital care. The gathering ended with a community sing.
Mr and Mrs Alben Albert Jacobson and Bradley and Mr and Mrs Roy L MacAdam attended the Armistice day program in Sidney Saturday morning.
Recent visitors included Mrs. Wickhorst and several teachers as well as Miss Oldershaw. Birthdays were celebrated with sweets. National Education Week brought more visitors and classroom posters for the Coyote Roundup. The Tam ing of the Shrew was staged by Misner Players aiding the program. Armistice Day speeches shared notes on joy and service. Latin, shorthand, and math lessons progress with declensions, verb conjugations, and fraction operations.
Fair and warm weather continues for weeks with cold nights, but ground remains dry due to lack of moisture. The conditions favor mild daytime temperatures while stressing water supplies and soil conditions across the area.
Doors at the schoolhouse swing open this evening for the second annual school carnival. The event begins at 7 30 with programs in every room and attractions in full blast. Admission is five cents, tickets six for one, and a big free auditorium program starts at 8. At 9 30 a wedding dress parade spotlight, with prizes for many events and contests, rounds out the night.
Herbert Schuessler reports a series of social visits around Pleasant View. Neighboring families including the muellers steffens Haacks Morrows Schubarths and Ler mans hosted dinners and suppers with relatives and friends visiting from Denver Sidney Ida o.
Roland Hendee and wife with Dean Hagemeister and wife traveled to Hemingford Wednesday afternoon for an amateur radio gathering at the Bruce Hagemeister home. About 40 hams XYLs and other radio enthusiasts attended. A fine time was reported by all.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rose and Mr and Mrs Edward Wickhorst attended a gathering at the home of Mr and Mrs George Coulter Sunday afternoon.
Local ad announces shingles expected this week and invites review. Price is 3.65 dollars per square with four bundles enough for 100 square feet. Offered by R S Proudfit Co.
The Ladies Aid society hosts an annual bazaar and dinner this Saturday at the Methodist church parlors. Dinner features cafeteria style service with items such as chicken, roast beef, baked ham, sides, desserts and beverages priced from 3c to 10c, inviting broad community attendance.
The Village of Potter Nebraska held a regular meeting November 6 1939 with Chairman Arnell and Trustees Schwartz Fiegenschuh MacAdam Slama plus Clerk Stevens and Superintendent Hendee present. firemen discussed fire truck and parking enforcement.
Mr and Mrs Edgar Leafdale announce the birth of a daughter at 3 30 a m November 15 1939 at Kimball. Both mother and baby are reported doing nicely. The baby has been named Marilyn Jean.
A worship service for all is planned Sunday evening November 19 at 8 at the Methodist church with Rev. Schwabnuer of Sidney as guest speaker Following the service fathers and sons only will gather for a refreshments in the church parlor Public invited.
Mr and Mrs George Munger of Hastings were weekend guests at the home of Mrs Hazel Sleeth. Sunday Mrs Sleeth hosted a dinner for the Mungers Bill Simon and Miss Bess Marhal of North Platte and Charles Sleeth and Harold Thayer of Sidney.
The Ladies Guild will meet on next Thursday afternoon November 23 at the Lutheran church parlors. Everyone is cordially invited.
The second annual community Christmas program is set for Saturday December 16 at 2 30 PM on the public square weather permitting. The brief ceremony will feature a 25 voice chorus then Santa Claus distributing sacks of candy to children with perhaps some for adults. Sponsors include the Legion Auxiliary Community Club Royal Neighbors and other groups with the Legion again backing the event as a non sectarian community celebration. If severe weather arrives the event will move indoors to a local garage building but proceed.
A Thursday evening collision near Seyfang hall involved Rudy Dedic's car and Walter Henry's truck. Mr Dedic, Mrs Dedic, and their son were shaken and bruised, with the Dedic vehicle sustaining heavy damage.
Mrs. Edgar Hicks returned yesterday from a visit in Minneapolis.
