Potter Bearcats to face Ft Warren Cheyenne in season opener
Potter Bearcats meet the 20th Infantry team from Fort Warren Cheyenne in the 1937 baseball opener next Sunday at the new park. Emil Nelson and Wim Goding manage with Lefty Peterson sharing mound duties with Erv Marlette. Admission 25 cents for adults. schoolchildren free. first pitch at 2 30. The following Sunday Potter hosts Pine Bluffs as the league starts.

Showers Over Weekend and Wednesday Bring Moisture
Light to medium showers occurred through the weekend with the heaviest rain in the far north divide and northeast of Potter. Heavy showers extended from ten miles north of Kimball into Scottsbluff. Three day precipitation totaled 0.15 inches with all rain soaking the ground. Tuesday cleared and warm while Wednesday stayed showery with a light trace. April ranked among the driest on record.

Poppy Day Observed in Potter May Twenty Second
Poppy day will be observed in Potter on Saturday May 22 with poppies distributed citywide by Auxiliary women. Poppies from a veterans hospital will honor World War dead and fund welfare for disabled veterans and needy families. Volunteers will offer flowers on the streets to solicit contributions for the Legion and Auxiliary work locally.

Potter girls sextette shines at state music contest Hastings
The Potter girls sextette joined 36 entries in the state small vocal group at Hastings on April 30 and May 1. The group, with accompanists Yale Mattie Nelson Mrs Sleeth and Mrs Slocumb, earned a good rating, ranking higher than Norfolk and Ogallala and tying with Omaha Tech Fre mont and Fairbury among others. The event showcased strong performances and inspired public appreciation of school music progress.

Leo Fisher led the Coyote scoring 12 points of their 20 at the Lodgepole Valley Track Meet in Sidney on April 23. Narrowly Escapes Death In Bridgeport Store Fire
Harry M. Swanson of Bridgeport former Potter storekeeper had a narrow escape last Saturday when his store burned. Fire started by an explosion of a heating stove. Swanson suffered severe burns on his right leg as flames swept the building and endangered adjoining structures. Fire department brought the blaze under control. Swanson's store was badly damaged.

A phone was installed at the light plant last Saturday for the convenience of customers and others who might have business with the plant employees. The phone will also be a valuable aid in case of fire, getting the alarm in quicker than before. If you have a fire, call central and the alarm will be in almost immediately.
