Local fans expect a top Tri-State League clash as Bushnell visits the field after Pine Bluffs beat Bushnell and Potter defeated Pine Bluffs. Bear Cats seek to end a slump and lift batting and fielding averages while hoping for revenge and season redemption.
The following business houses will close from 2:30 p m until the program ends on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with no programs Monday after noon and Wednesday Fourth of July. List includes Home Lumber Company stores, Potter State Bank, Potter Review, Hansen-Seyfang Co, Linn Hdw. & Implement Co, Stanton Variety Store, Gunderson Blacksmith shop, Potter Produce Co, The Johnson Store, Biggs Barber shop, Potter Drug Co, Henry's Store, Potter Meat Market, Witt Milling & Grain Co, R. J. Wallick store, Schwartz Implement Co.
Mrs Edward Fisher departed Saturday evening for Laurel Indiana to be with her ailing mother. She had lost her father a few weeks earlier and now faces her mother’s serious illness.
An advertising note promotes Lincoln Star daily with Sunday edition for 2.00 or without Sunday for 1.60, valid until November 15, 1928. The ad urges readers to subscribe for political news and mentions to reference the offer. A side line notes Joe Johnson owns a new Hudson sedan.
Potter invites residents and neighbors to a peaceful Fourth of July in Johnson grove. Enjoy shaded areas, running water, basket dinners, and two chautauqua programs. Sports and relaxation await, with no large celebration planned.
Pastor Chas O. Troy was away due to his mother’s illness and last Sunday’s services were dismissed. Masonic services at Johnson’s grove move to next Sunday at 5 p.m. Morning worship at 11 a.m. Theme Lads and Dads. Evening service at 5 p.m. Builders and Masterbuilders. If bad weather, 8 p.m. church. Sunday school at 10 a.m. All Masons urged to attend. public welcome.
Kimball overwhelmed the Bear Cats 11 to 8 as Williams struggled on the mound and six or more errors aided the defeat. The Potter club hoped to rebound against Bushnell next, while a small traveling bag offered as reward.
The Potter Auxiliary held a June meeting at Mrs. C W Johnsons and Miss Lulu last Wednesday. They planned to make card table cloths and sofa pillow cases for veterans hospitals and reported steady progress on sewn items for Fort Snelling Fitzsimons Kansas City and Knoxville hospitals. A rehabilitation commendation letter praised the unit for its output. One new member Mrs Homer Light joined. The meeting ended with a lunch. next meeting location to be announced. Mr and Mrs Henry Severean of Scribner Neb are visiting Arthur Harms and he is noted as an auctioneer.
The program lists daily events from July 2 to July 5 with afternoon and evening shows led by Metropolitan Trio Southland Players Robert A. Bowman Beatrice Weller Ye Olde New England Choir Premier Artists PIGS and a Gentleman Prefer Blondes play. Season tickets for seven programs sold at 1.75 for adults and 1.00 for children. single admissions are 50c adults and 25c children.
A severe lightning display from 2:00 to 2:30 a m rattled Potter with continuous bolts and thunderous noise. No major structural damage or livestock losses were reported though telegraph and electric lines suffered. Telegraph services were briefly cut, and utility crews worked to restore circuits as rain followed and more rainfall was forecast.
A blue rock shoot is announced for the morning of July 4 at 8:00 a.m. at the Home Lumber Company farm south of Potter. All who care to are invited to join in the shoot and spectators will be welcome.
A good sized delegation attended the local lodge meeting Tuesday evening despite storm detentions. Clarence Rogers received the M M degree with several visiting Masons from Kimball present. After the work, attendees enjoyed cake sandwiches and coffee.
Gen. Reetz has recovered enough to be up and around after several weeks of illness. He visited town once last week and again on Tuesday to greet friends. Locals express happiness at his improving health. Miss Anna Olson of Omaha is visiting her brother Lewis Olson east of Potter.
