Potter juvenile squad under Emil Nelson dropped a 3 to 2 decision at Pine Bluffs in a tightly played game. Earl Anderson pitched all nine innings for Potter as Pine Bluffs committed no errors. Next Thursday July 4 the teams meet at Potter at 2:30 pm with 25 cent admission for men and free for women and children.
Two applications for hard liquor sales are before the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. Jacob Eckert of Dalton proposes a lower floor room at the Potter hotel. Harry Wells targets a lower room at Wells Cafe & Hotel. The commission has not acted and may delay a week. Potter has no liquor ordinance yet and faces village board attention soon. Some towns recently passed ordinances. Potter would sell liquor in original packages only. Potters town has never legally sold liquor since incorporation.
A burro ball event at Potter last Saturday evening drew a large crowd with 25 and 10 cent admissions, netting over $56. Eleven burros from Wilkinson Co. of Oxford were ridden by players of Schwartz Implement Co. and Pleasant View who won 7-2, amid humorous spills and antics. Sixty percent of gate receipts went to the burro owners, the rest to Potter Soft Ball association.
Potter youth Mark Goding has made good in the Navy, graduating June 13 from Machinists School in Norfolk Virginia and now attending Diesel School in New London Connecticut. Congratulations, Mark.
A tornado struck the Henry Laaker farm eleven miles southeast of Sidney on Sunday, ripping half the barn roof from its foundation and lifting hog and chicken houses and other outbuildings. The Waaaker family fled in their car as heavy farm implements were moved. Wheat turned brown after the hit. A second funnel caused damage further south.

Leonard Belongia the Colorado murderer was executed in the lethal gas chamber at the Colorado State prison Friday night. He was captured in Sydney by Sheriff W. W. Schulz and Chief of Police R. H. Rogers after killing his employer and fleeing in a truck, and he walked calmly to his death, smiling and praying as the gas took effect.
A benefit dance hosted by the girls softball team is set for Saturday evening June 29 at Seyfang Hall. Admission is 50 cents with net proceeds aiding the team’s equipment needs.
Potter overpowers Chappell 14 to 0 as Koennecker and Jorstad pace a young Potter battery. Chappell’s Wilson started strong but faltered in seventh, with Bales and Wright allowing more runs. Reichstein, Stecher, and Smith produced the only three base hits for Chappell. Potter's fielding and timely hitting sealed the shutout.
The Wetomachick campfire group met Thursday proposing a scavenger hunt for leaves from locust Russian olive cherry silver maple elm boxelder catalpa plum apple and cedar. They plan to search for flower leaves next and earn honors for activities. Campfire girls of Redmond Washington explored an old mine area during a weekend trip into California and asked for an unused table for summer use.
Ralph Robertson will relieve Dr. Fiegenschuh as manager of the softball association for the next two weeks while Dr. Fiegenschuh takes evenings off to work on his chicken ranch.
The newspaper will release one day early due to a national holiday on the regular press day. Completion target is Wednesday evening instead of Thursday. advertisers and contributors are asked to submit copy 24 hours earlier. Local businesses will be closed Thursday, July 4.
Next Sunday promises the season’s largest crowd if baseball weather holds as Sidney visits Potter in a crucial league clash. Sidney is undefeated, Potter has one loss. a Potter win would tie for first, while a Sidney victory would nearly clinch first-half honors. Game starts at 2 30 with 25 cent admission for adults. youths 15 and under free.
A quarter inch of rain fell Tuesday afternoon with general coverage on the north divide and in Scottsbluff Harrisburg Kimball and Dix areas. No hail was reported. Rain is deemed sufficient to help insure an ample crop.
The 1935 Fourth of July is expected to be a quiet local affair with many joining picnic parties at nearby spots. Some will stay home and attend a ball game in the afternoon. People may also participate in celebrations at Sidney and Redington, with Johnson grove likely crowded as Senator Johnson extends a welcome to picnickers.
B H Murten pastor announces Sunday school at 10 a.m. and morning worship at 11 a.m. An outdoor service will be held at 5 p.m. in the C W Johnson grove with all welcome and cordial hospitality at every service.
Potter Boosters Community club will meet at the Cords cafe July 3. Lawrence Schwartz is the program leader, and a very interesting program is being arranged. A large attendance is desired.
Sunday school begins at 9:00 a m with worship and sermon at 10:00 a m Rev George Flora presiding. Invite friends to attend this morning service at the Lutheran church.
A Sunday gathering at the Fred Beetz home included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Conney and Merlin, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lesenberg and Mary Dell of Lindbergh Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith and Peggy, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Curry and Dudley of Pine Bluffs Wyoming, and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Tompkins, Mrs Harold Higgins and Donald of Sidney Nebraska. They brought baskets and enjoyed a picnic dinner.
Business caller Emil Cords visited Scottsbluff on Tuesday seeking customers for Cords rings sales.
Sidney residents Leo Osborn and Joe Schoupe made business calls in Potter and Kimball respectively. Wm Bates from Kimball and RO Chambers of Minature also visited Potter for business. Mrs Lucinda Shea of Scottsbluff visited her son D. C. Shea and family, while Dr Leo Thomas of Sidney stayed with Dr W. T. Sloan in Potter.
Fern Ferguson traveled to the northeastern part of the county on Monday to attend to business matters.
Mr and Mrs R V Frances and Mr Francis mother of Sidney spent Sunday at the R L MacAdam home.
The Edgar Hicks residence west of the schoolhouse is being given a fresh coat of paint.
The fairways at the golf course are being mown and preparations underway to present the course in first class condition.
Ray Wickhorst suffered a fractured leg after his horse skidded on a slippery road last Friday and fell, leaving him on crutches.
The small daughters of Mr and Mrs Ted Carlson are staying at the Chas Hagemeister home while their parents are away.
Mrs. D. F. Enevoldsen and Mrs. Dewey Lovell acted as hostesses for a Wednesday gathering of the American Legion Auxiliary at the home of Mrs. Enevoldsen.
Harold Reed, 15, son of Mr and Mrs Chas Reed living north of Lodge Pole, died by his own hand from strychnine amid despondency over illness. The tragedy underscores the impact of ill health on youths in the community.
Mr and Mrs H Stevens and child en spent Sunday in Sterling Colorado and other points On returning home they got a close up view of the tornado that tore through parts of northeastern Colorado and did considerable damage at the Henry Lanker farm across the line in Cheyenne county
Two carloads of wool were shipped by Kimball county sheep men. Boy Scouts earned fines redirected to fund a future company trip. Great Western Sugar transfers affect Mitchell and Wheatland plants as they close this fall. L. K. Kious was bitten by a rattlesnake while switching a train in Brush Colorado and is recovering in hospital.
Mr and Mrs Theodore Johnson of Banner county marked their golden wedding anniversary with a trip to Colorado mountains resorts. The couple are an early day family from the Harrisburg vicinity.
John G. Hutton a former banker of Gering died at his home there after a long illness. He moved to Gering in 1918 and remained active in business until a stroke eight years ago. Survived by his widow one son and two daughters. Interment was at Pawnee City.
A lightning strike hit the Mrs. John Ruddeen farm fifteen miles north of Pine Bluffs. The barn fire forced Mr. and Mrs. H. Peters to remove livestock and gear while about 150 dollars worth of harness and tools were destroyed. The building was partly insured.
Arthur Olson of Flowerfield was bitten by a rattlesnake while riding. He dropped his glove, dismounted, and bit the wound to rip skin away, then used a pocket knife to remove the piece. He rode home and arranged transport to a doctor. Doctors report he is recovering nicely.
