A call goes out for local instrument players to join a pickup band. Report at the schoolhouse next Monday evening to form a group, with two or three practices planned before a July Fourth performance at the chau tauqua and associated picnic.
Wallace Challburg is again employed at the municipal light plant after a long absence. He attended an electrical school in Milwaukee and worked there before returning Wednesday to resume his duties. C. E. Horn, who previously held the job, resigned last week.
Mr. Oscar N. Redeen and Hilda O. Carlson of Chicago wed in a quiet home ceremony on Thursday June 7 1928 at the groom’s farm northeast of Potter. Esther Carlson played the wedding march, Alice Carlson was flower girl, Rev. Dr J Nelson of Chicago officiated, a supper followed, and many gifts were received as Telegrams and greetings were read. The couple will reside on the farm northeast of Potter.
Not being able to thank all our friends personally for the many expressions of kindness and help shown us during our sickness we express our appreciation to all our friends and neighbors who helped so willingly in every way. Mr and Mrs George Reetz.
J. E. Paquette, superintendent of the Sidney municipal light plant, was in town Tuesday on business.
The Review office reports 0.91 inches of rain in June through noon Wednesday the 13th. Four showers soaked the region, aiding ground moisture. May's late heavy rains improved soil. winter wheat headed, spring crops thriving, with minimal hail. Western Nebraska appears poised for another good crop, with forecasts of more rain to come.
The American Legion Auxiliary opened May with 41,623 more members than the prior year, a rise exceeding 22 percent. The total reached 74.86 percent of the December 31 goal as 82 new units formed in April, bringing total new units since January to 247.

Potter locals bank on United Chautauqua Company of Des Moines for a high quality seven program series July 2 8 4 5 1928 with a $150 guarantee and about 30 signers. Season tickets priced at 1.75 and 1.00, two plays per program, music lectures and entertainment promised.

Dix faces Potter, Bushnell meets Cheyenne, Kimball plays Bunker Hill, Pine Bluffs vs Peetz in regional league actions scheduled for next Sunday.

Mrs. C H Chappell of Chicago reports the death of her son Jay F Chappell who died in Asheville North Carolina from pneumonia after a short illness following an automobile trip with his family. He was a prominent Chicago businessman and his loss is mourned by numerous social and business associates.

Two hundred twenty five Nebraska farmers entered the 1928 ten acre corn yield contest, a record five annual event with county leaders Clay 26 Cass 16 Douglas 15 and Dawson 14. The contest rewards farmers who grow corn on legumes and boost labor efficiency with large machinery, enabling one man to handle up to 100 acres.
Nueva Gerona Isle of Pines to wear memorial day poppies for the first time. The Isle of Pines Post of the American Legion has cabled Indianapolis for poppies to be sold here. The island, part of Cuba, has a large American population and a thriving Legion post. An auxiliary unit is being organized.
Mrs Edward Fisher of Potter received word Saturday of the death of her father Wm Schocke after a long illness caused by cancer. The family has community sympathy. Also an advertisement for a Belgium stallion Omar by Earl Easton inviting inquiries.
The schedule lists daily events from July 2 to July 5 with afternoon concerts lectures and plays. July 2 has no afternoon program but an evening Metropolitan Trio. July 4 features Ye Olde New England Choir and lectures by Guy Morse Bingham plus a Ye Olde New England evening. July 5 offers Premier artists entertainment with cartoonist Beatrice Weller and a feature play Pigs.
A local group discusses holding a simple July 4 picnic at the Johnson Grove with band music races and possible ball game and fireworks. The plan includes a chautauqua program in the afternoon and evening to boost turnout, but is not finalized yet.
Byron Happy Brown a 23 year old Banner county farmer narrowly escaped losing a limb last Friday afternoon while breaking sod on the Sanford Thurman farm six miles northwest of Harrisburg. Brown was riding the tractor fender when lug caught his shoe pulling his leg into the machinery. His wife rushed aid and Mr Thurman broke his wrist attempting to crank the car. Brown crawled a quarter mile dragging the injured limb and cranked the car from a kneeling position. He was taken to neighbors then to the Methodist hospital in Scottsbluff where 30 stitches closed the wound and he remained on the operating table over an hour. Exposed blood loss placed him in a critical condition but recovery seems possible.
The Robinson Schielder show pitched tents in Potter Monday entertaining crowds with lions bears ponies and dogs all well trained. Good trapeze acts featured at both matinee and evening performances and the troupe provided satisfaction to attendees.
