President Taft has signed a measure allowing entry men to prove up on homesteads in three years instead of five and permits five months absence from the land each year as part of the three year homestead bill.
The Epworth League ice cream social on June 10 in Thornburg hall drew a large crowd. A lively program preceded supper and receipts totaled 22.22 dollars for a good cause, pleasing the young folks and encouraging league support.
The slain youth was identified as Jack Henderson. He attempted to ride a freight train pulling east, slipped, and was dragged about twenty five yards before a switch point released him and the next car fatally struck. His parents are believed to live in Iowa.
Last Sunday night at Villisca a family of father mother and four children and two girl guests were murdered with an axe while asleep. Authorities chase a gang of escaped hospital patients, while real murderers may have fled. The note hints at proximity to Villisca amid a network of telephones and railroads in a southwestern town.
Market day at Kimball set for Saturday with big ball game advertised. Potter will play ball at Kimball tomorrow. Livoni sells the Rio. Furniture sale at the main tainer's house. Pleasant View reports a fine back-to-back rain over Saturday and Sunday reviving grass and improving fields. Farmers like Geo Hicks, Dan Heimer, Evay Stines and Will Godling keep busy with flax sowing, dung breakers, and engine work at Mickies and the Sanders neighborhood. Neighbors visit, repairs and chores fill the week as Mrs Goding recovers, and another rain Tuesday night lifts spirits with smiles that won’t fade.
Postoffice hours run from 7 a m to 8 p m daily except Sundays when closed. Mail arrival and departure times include Going West at 7:00 am and 3:30 pm, with No 5 leaving at 12:20 pm and not collecting mail from this office.
