Western Nebraska endured a heavy wet snowstorm over Saturday and Sunday, yielding about 1.40 inches of precipitation in 48 hours. Snow depths varied, with higher totals on divides and Kirk country, but ground frost largely left, moisture seeping into soil and improving crop prospects while roads remained passable to good.
Rudolph Dedic son of Mr and Mrs Charles Dedic and Wilma Alice Slama daughter of Mr and Mrs Wim Slama of Potter were united in marriage at Denver on Wednesday February 18 1931. The couple will reside on the groom s farm in Potter community. The Review extends best wishes for happiness and prosperity.
Lodge Pole and Potter battled a tense district final with stout defenses and late foul shooting. Walters of Lodge Pole sparked the lead, the half and final tally ending 13-12 as Lodge Pole claimed the title. Christensen brothers led Potter in scoring with six apiece. Broadwater and Gurley earned consolation honors.
Large crowds gathered for the Nelson Implement Company opening day with power farming entertainment from International Harvester. A duplicate of Cyrus McCormick’s first reaper drew many visitors at Seyfang hall while morning and afternoon films ran and a free Wells Cafe lunch fed hundreds.
Gary Allan Hagemeister two day old son of Mr and Mrs Lee Hagemeister was laid to rest in the Potter cemetery Monday afternoon February 23 1931 after dying shortly after midnight in Kimball A short grave side service was led by Rev H E Sorter with family and friends in attendance The community shares in the families sorrow The roads report passable other than Yon't borrow it s subscriber road With more storms expected stock losses were not reported and indications point to further storms soon
The 1931 district basketball tournament at Lodgepole ended with Potter High School earning a trophy and qualification for the North Platte regional meet next week. Coach Fowler and the team were praised for sportsmanship and strong play while fans and Lodgepole locals showed notable hospitality. A cut above the eye on one Potter player healed well, and a convocation program featured singing by the students.
Shirley Royalty entered our grade Tuesday increasing enrollment to thirty. She comes from Crawford Nebraska. Geraldine Crowell returned last week after an extended absence.
Our room enjoyed a birthday treat from Betty Jean Dykeman on Wednesday February 18. Mrs Hill Mrs Dykeman and Mrs Emil Nelson visited. The second grade has another new reader. We have read five readers so far. On Friday we read stories about Washington and made a booklet with a Washington story. Adelia Streeter was absent last week due to illness.
Visitors this week were Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Vaughan. Those scoring 100 percent in spelling last week include Virginia Van Pelt Dorothy Anderson Janice Babcock Phyllis Babcock Pearl Grege June Brady Leo Fisher June Fisher Absences last week were Irma Haddin Pearl Gregg Joseph Jensen Wendell Snocker and Francis Groe. The fourth grade have been playing store for arithmetic while the English classes finish February booklets on Lincoln and Washington. Six weeks examinations will be given this week.
Gladys Smith Earl Nielsen and Myron Challburg were absent last week due to illness. The group attended a high school pep meeting last Friday. Six weeks tests begin this week. Lorraine Slama and Marie Roberson were top 100 percent spellers. Visitors included Mrs Vaughan Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Dykeman. Earl Moench and Jake Fricke helped at home causing one day absences. Kenneth Wickstrom was ill Friday. Penmanship classes prepare Palmer awards and final certificates. Catherine Wickhorst Avis Hill Maxine Wells and Stewart Nelson each scored 100 percent on a problem scale Thursday. Most students scored above average.
The Chappell town team easily defeated the Pirates 33 to 25 in a fast game. Key scorers included Potter captain Rogers with 5, H Christensen 10, Carlson 6, and Bower 10 for Chappell along with Betz 8 and Wellsande 7. Frost Christensen starred for Chappell with a strong performance.
Due to weather no services were held last Sunday. Services will be held next Sunday afternoon at the usual hours with Sunday school at 1:15 p.m. and worship at 3 p.m. Arrangements for Mid-Week Lenten services will be announced next Sunday.
The infant child of Mr and Mrs John Gregg a boy was not permitted to live and was laid to rest in Potter cemetery Wednesday. Short religious services were held by Rev H E Sorter in the presence of sorrowing relatives. The child was born early Wednesday morning and buried that afternoon. The family have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
Pine Bluffs high school will face Coyotes in a Monday game with Potter Junior Highs meeting Pete & Bills Oil Cans. The clubs last met amid a lively contest, promising two good games for Potter fans. The Royal Neighbors plan a March 3 anniversary meeting with district deputy Nellie E. West of Scottsbluff attending. neighbors are welcome.
The Disaster and Relief Committee reports four carloads of foodstuffs sent to drought sufferers in Cheyenne county. Donor list compiled by E. H. Biggs includes names and localities. Space limits prevent full publication. For violin lessons contact Roy Jacobson farm and Potter classes led by Mildred Jacobson.
The Midland College A Cappella Choir of Fremont Nebraska will present a sacred concert at Sidney's new city auditorium on Wednesday evening March 4. The 60 voice choir, led by Prof Oscar Lyder, has played in Chicago and other eastern cities earning praise and requests for return engagements. General admission is 50 cents under the United Lutheran church auspices with Dr W T Kahse pastor.
