A harsh cold snap swept the area last Saturday night with winds howling and temperatures dropping to eight below, then to three below by morning. Snow began around four in the morning and eased by eight, with many indoors seeking artificial heat and churchgoers noting a new bell’s distant toll amid the storm.
In a Navy entry, Emil Nel is admitted to the service following a successful examination. Two other young men, from Cheyenne and Denver, were considered but Nel advanced. He begins training at Mare Island California, after selection from a crowded pool.
M J Johnson died Thursday February 26 at 1 25 PM after a period of illness. Funeral plans and a likely burial are to be announced later as authorities work to obtain a death certificate and arrange subsequent arrangements.
Potter notes with relief that R A Babcock, a respected local youth, was taken to a Cheyenne hospital after a strain sustained during athletics. Doctors report he may be able to return home tomorrow, and the community expresses gladness at his rapid recovery.
Joe Nelson quit his brother Fred Nelson’s store after two years as clerk and will farm his father’s place 2 1 2 miles northeast of town next year. Gil bert Earlywine will assist on the farm.

H Finesilver a Cheyenne glass peddler canvassed the town on Wednesday trying to sell window glass. Marshall Hansen stopped him by arresting Finesilver for peddling without a license in an incorporated town. After proceedings he was released and vowed not to peddle in Potter again without a license.
Train service from the east has been badly crippled this week due to heavy snow storms in the east. The disruption affected schedules and passenger movement, with cancellations and delays reported across multiple routes.

R O Sickles is busy building a shack on his homestead north of Darley Skinner’s place. Clyde Wy at and family spent Sunday at P P Waitman’s. Homer Sickles sold fat hogs to Bridgeport buyers and delivered five wagon loads. Grant Brady of Potter transacted business with T H Smith on Monday. This week TV H Smith and Mr Mosier are in Denver buying cattle to feed. While crossing the school grounds in the park Mr Bishop sprained his ankle Saturday night at Liuaray Mosier schoolhouse. Mr Olson of Banner county returned from Omaha with a new Carter Car purchased from C A Perkins. Mrs Joe Nehuse visited with Mrs Art Thurman. Hog buyers from Bridgeport were in the valley last week buying hogs from Nehuse, Burkie, Eckert and others. Miss Hazel Waitman of Bridgeport spent a few weeks last week with her parents Mr and Mrs P P Waitman. Sunday school will be organized at Muhr schoolhouse Sunday Mar 8.
A plan to equip the M I church with about 110 opera chairs with armpieces and foot rests to create comfortable seating and leave wide aisles. A signing card in Fred Nelson's store tracks purchases, but no chair is assigned to a buyer, and sales aim to fund the chair purchase within 30 days. Additional notices advertise hay, an eye specialist visit, bran, and hides for sale by Omaha firms.

The high school invites attendees to a declamatory contest next Friday evening in the Lutheran church. Six contestants will speak and no admission will be charged. The School promises an enjoyable evening with strong attendance anticipated.
The Ladies' Aid Society of Potter expresses gratitude to those who patronized their sale and Washington dinner at the Potter Hotel. Special thanks go to new proprietors Mr. and Mrs. Peterson for offering free use of the hotel and its facilities, and to Mr. Banta for supplying ice cream.

The declamatory contest at the Lutheran church features vocal solos by Edith Challburg Melanie Kayne Ethel Brady Trena Schmidt and Dorothy MacAdam with titles The Going of the White Swan That Boy John The Lost Word Abraham Lincoln The Bridal Wine Cup Miss Kate Penogia and The Choir Girls perform a chorus. Vocal duet performed by Grace McFad and Irma Struble as judges render decisions.
