The text notes that twenty four years ago the Potter Review cost $1 while wages were much lower. Since then prices for air, produce, and staples have risen dramatically. It argues newspapers have not raised their price in twenty five years yet still charge a dollar today.
Work on the Spitzbart parade site starts this week with relocating the residence to a lot east of Myer’s house. The building will serve as a home for now, but its future use is undecided. Plans call for continuing construction and completing the garage within a few months.

The Fuller children quit school and several students were absent due to sickness while others returned. Wallace Challburg and Nina Challburg had sickness-related absences with others resuming classes. A National Daily leaflet by Dr George Bonne argues Germany’s industry relies on clear brains and steady muscles and cites Krupp and other firms providing non alcoholic drinks to workers. The piece notes limited headway in weaning from drinking, with university professors and army navy and industry backing the view.
The town board met in the Review office Monday night with High Waten Thornburg and Gunder son present. Absent was Johnson. Bills allowed include FF G M coal 8.60 and Standard Oil oil for Jan 82.88. A building permit was issued to John Seyfang for a public hall on lot e 12 in Telft's addition to Potter. Marshell Lawsen's new star was accepted by the board.
A copy of the Potter Review dated December 30 1893 donated by Miss Dora Gunderson of Dix is preserved in a safety vault. The issue contains country correspondence from Bachel oradam North Divide Bethel and Swede Point and includes familiar names such as Adam Gunderson John Seyfang Anna Adams D H Shultz B K Bushee Lewis Brett Immons Sanders C A Hendrickson. The paper is well edited and the editors invite others with old papers to contribute for archival filing.
Citizens' State Bank will commence business March first with C. C. Hansen as president Clarence Johnson as vice president and R A Babcock as cashier. It will locate temporarily in the Nelson store adjoining the post office until the new building is completed. The bank aims for strong business and has begun preparations including printed stationery.
Cattle and hog listings show a busy market at Union Stock Yards South Omaha with 177 loads about 4,400 head of cattle. Prices for beef steers and cows vary by grade, with high bids near 11.50 for good to best beeves and hogs selling 15 to 25 cents higher as buyers push for stock.
A promotional notice from Osceola Nebraska promotes magazine orders and reading value. It claims broad access to periodicals from around the world, offers discounts for clubs of two or more magazines, and mentions farm loan commissions plus purchasing farm mortgages. Readers are directed to remit to Drawer C.
A M Leafdale of our north has been appointed manager of the F G M Co and will take charge March first. He is described as competent and a desirable citizen and the town welcomes him warmly.
The Mission Day program announced for next Sunday by the Lutheran Sunday School has been postponed to the following Sunday March 4. The play will be performed at 10 p.m. and arrangements are being made to ensure a quality production.
