A week of heavy snowfall and sub zero mornings left roads drifted and country lanes blocked. Snow depth increased nightly with many light f alls and multiple gusty winds causing near blizzard conditions. Mail routes remained disrupted and officials forecast thawing by week end.
Henry Vogler longtime Kimball county official and former county clerk and treasurer died at a Kimball hospital after a long illness. Born 1864 in Mannheim Germany he came to the United States as a child and settled in Kimball in 1886. He served as county clerk six years and treasurer four, later as county judge for 17 years. He was postmaster in Dix and helped start a bank before retiring. He was 77.
Bridgeport votes 270 to 35 in favor of condemning the local light plant. Nearby communities Consumers, Sidney, Scottsbluff, Chadron and Ogallala face similar votes soon on related proceedings.

PotterNebraska village officials meet February 2 1942 in regular session approving minutes and a 25 dollar library donation. Claims total include fuel oil supplies repairs insurance and labor. Salaries raised by five staff by 5 per month effective Jan 1 1942. A special session February 6 1942 suspends beer license for 30 days after a hearing with Noble Hoobler.
The village and school caucuses are scheduled for March 4 with two school board terms expiring for D. F. Ene voldgen and August Schmidt and two seats to be filled for three-year terms at the April 7 election. Town board terms of Alfred Arnell and Wim Slema expire this year with two seats to fill for two years. George Thirlwall’s police magistrate term ends this year and a new magistrate will serve two years. School board holds over George Cutter Rudy Dedic Ernest Anderson and Clarence Johnson. Town board holds over Roy L. MacAdam Joe P. Schwartz and J. J. Fiegenschuh.

Fifty eight men aged 20 to 45 registered at the library booth over the weekend in America's second call for available manpower. Those who lied at first registration and those in the armed forces were exempt. The Potter American Legion Auxiliary oversaw the effort with eight members on the board. service was voluntary and widely praised.

Work has begun on a one story dormitory costing 5000 dollars for 36 students of Plains Adjzwings in Cheyenne. The building will be furnished with double deck beds, but no provisions are being made for boarding.
Lavern H. Nicodemus a 26 year old U P shop worker faced federal charges filed last Friday in Cheyenne for plotting to sabotage the railroad main line seven miles east of Cheyenne. He admitted plans to wreck several rails and derail trains in the sabotage scheme.
Myron Challburg of Camp Dix New Jersey visits relatives and friends here this week due to his father Morris G. Challburg s serious illness Chick known to us here has made good in the medical branch of the army and we salute him from the print shop to the top in Uncle Sam s service
Local businessmen at Durango Colorado held a dinner meeting with a novelty cinnamon roll and milk for a dollar. Profits from the poverty dinner go to buy defense bonds in the club’s name. Supt V I Daniels of the Great Western Sugar plant in Gering was praised for winning second place in the factory pennant rankings during the sugar campaign. The Ovid report notes a point six for the year.
A Navy press release announcing that qualified stenographers may apply as yeomen drew many responses after a one word slip. Commander J C Thom of the Denver recruiting office reported receiving a flood of letters from women across the Rocky Mountain west following the misprint. The report also notes a land survey in the Bunker Hill area as a potential site for an army ordnance project.
Despite extreme cold and blocked roads a Herry Wells farm sale Tuesday drew a small crowd yet reported a successful outcome with most items selling at good figures. The harsh weather did not prevent solid purchases from the attendees.
Editor and Mrs. A. B. Wood depart by air to Rochester Minnesota for Mayo Clinic treatment and to visit daughter Mrs Horton Colbert. They chartered a Hogan plane to avoid transfers. the trip was expected to take under five hours versus a day and a half by rail or car.

Obituaries note Frank H. Voigt age 80 of Pine Bluffs passing February 5 along with Blanche Hanna age 84 of Cheyenne and George Nekson Phoenix age 76 of Burns who died February 4.

The Dalton Delegate reports Roy Parady, eleven, son of Mr and Mrs Bradley Parady, is gradually improving after a July 10 highway crash near Gurley. He now talks walks reads and does some math work, a notable recovery after doctors feared brain centers were torn loose and severe injury.
News reached Anton Tesar’s Sunol area family that Henry Tesar, son of residents west of Sunol, was killed in action. Navy burial arrangements will delay return of his remains to the mainland. A Sunol High School graduate enlisted in the navy about two years ago, joining three Cheyenne county youths reported dead in action since the Pacific war began.

Word reached here that Arthur Barrett, former Potter coach, passed examinations and may be commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. He has been in officer training at Fort Benning, Georgia, for several months.

Frank Dvorak Sr passed away after years of declining health. Born December 3, 1878 in Czecho Slovakia, he came to the U.S. in 1907 and to Cheyenne county Nebraska in 1914. Funeral rites are set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at a Catholic church in Sidney, with Gehrig Funeral Home handling arrangements. Survived by wife Betty, daughters Mrs Alfred Johnson and Mrs Jove Cizek, son Frank Jr, and six grandchildren.
Kermit Nelson son of Mrs Vu A Nelson and Bernard Hermansen son of Mr and Mrs E S Hermansen are listed among local boys joining Uncle Sam. Harold Olsen son of Mrs Jens Olsen and Leonard Nelson son of Jack Nelson have entered the west coast services with Kermit Nelson and Bernard Hermansen reported at Des Moines Iowa.
Dr and Mrs W T Kahse of Sidney are on the sick list this week. Dr Kahse hopes to be well enough by Sunday to hold the regular Sunday afternoon service here.
Mr and Mrs Reynold Erickson of Chico California visited here last week at the homes of Mr Ericksons brother Algot and sister Masg Raymond Erickson. They were enroute to the east coast on an extended tour.

Mr and Mrs Chris Crowell of Wister Nebraska visited friends here over the weekend and a few days this week on their way to Portland Oregon where they expect to make their home.
