A storm delivered two to three inches of snow across the region Tuesday and Wednesday with about 0.20 inches of precipitation. Temperatures dipped to ten below zero at one point while Thursday peaked at 22 above. The system was statewide, with eastern areas reporting depths from 6 to 14 inches.
Donald Bruner, 22, assistant coach of Broadwater basketball, died after a head on collision near Dalton Tuesday night. Lloyd Busboom and Joy Handley, both 15, Gurley students, were seriously injured but expected to recover. Five Broadwater players and five Gurley players were in the two cars returning from games.
August Schmidt filed for county commissioner from this district, joined by Ferd Wiekhorat the incumbent. Lester Stecher had filed earlier. All are Democrats with backing. No Republican filings yet though two or more may enter. The August 9 primary looms as Commissioner Fenske holds over to 1940 and Shaw seeks reelection amid competition.
Regular worship services are planned for Sunday with morning and evening prayers. The Milday Inter Epworth League Institute will be held in Lodge Pole next Saturday with a 7 45 am bus departure. The mother and daughter banquet is set for Thursday March 3 with a call to full support.

Schedule outlines early Thursday games and bracket play through Saturday finals with consolation rounds and potential finals spot against a nearby Class C winner for a state meet berth.

The Liberty Oil Well east of Potter, abandoned in 1919, is being pulled from the hole this week by E R Graves with John Heimer and Fred Prince. The 20 inch outer casing weighs over 100 pounds per foot, with about 300 feet remaining. Six jacks with 250 tons of force started the lift. progress is slow but improving as more pipe surfaces. The pipe will be sold in a nearby city for water mains use. The inside pipe was removed years ago and the hole cemented by state law.
WIDOW Omaha aired a mobile unit report of the Council Bluffs blaze on Broadway that destroyed the Chas National Bank building a drug store a clothing shop and doctors offices. Estimated losses stood at 175000 with no fatalities or injuries reported.
The annual convention of the Young Democrats of Cheyenne county will meet in the district courtroom at Sidney on Friday evening February 25 at 8 o'clock. Officers will be elected and delegates to the state convention chosen. A key topic is whether to endorse young democrats for political office and back a candidate slate. County chairman C Exngar Leafdale, serving since November 1935, will not seek reelection. Public invitation extended urging young democrats to attend.
The Potter State Bank will be closed all day next Tuesday February 22 in honor of Washingtons birthday.
In Roseville California a cyclone struck while a family rested in their truck. They witnessed outbuildings blown away and a 100 year old oak tree uprooted. Their home withstood the storm. Hage Meister’s son Arvid sent word describing the events.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday February 23 at 2 30 p m at the home of Mrs Clarence Johnson with Mrs Ralph Merscheim assisting hostess.
District 9 board reelected all teachers for 1938 39 except Furst and Richardson, who sought other plans. Furst aims for an administrative post. Richardson will study next summer and winter for boys school training. New salaries granted. others keep current scale. Returning staff include Lupt L A Wiemers on term, Rohlfing, Ahrendt, Slocumb, Mudge, Morrow, Larsen, Shaw. High school vacancies to be filled soon.
The National School Assemblies will present a magnificent program on the wonders of liquid air during the first semester of the 1938 39 school year. It is described as the most outstanding program of its type touring the country. Students and teachers anticipate an excellent presentation as no assemblies have come through this territory for a year and a half.
The tenth grade debates face recognition practices while the advanced class notes retention of learned material. Seventh and eighth graders finish Evangeline study and explore its characters. Bridgeport festival honors for a cast with a rough jam. Lincoln Washington Valentine songs and Lodge Pole plans mark March events. Senior glee club pins funded by radio jamboree proceeds. Junior high nitrogen fixation demo underway with clover pots. Valentine and Lincoln programs inspire grades from fifth to fourth. A decrease in a third grade student’s absence noted along with birthday study and spelling awards. Valentine parties and Washington posters cap a week of classroom activities across grades two to four.

First grade students cut hearts in art class last week and attended the Lincoln program in Friday afternoon’s assembly. They also enjoyed a Valentine program Monday morning and a Valentine box in the afternoon. No school February 22 as a one day holiday for Washington's Birthday observance.

Mrs. Wim. Sparks, long hospitalized at Sidney with pneumonia, shows further improvement this week after several weeks of treatment and convalescence.
The Potter Coyotes extended their winning streak with victories over Kimball Gurley and Bushnell. They beat Kimball 26 to 12, Gurley 44 to 12, and Bushnell 42 to 14 on Potter’s floor, with reserves splitting results and a home game against Dalton set for February 18 at 7 00 PM. After the game, the team and staff shared a chicken dinner hosted by Mrs. Walter Henry.

A report from Omaha concerns C. C. Crowell fourth, nine year old son of Mr and Mrs C C Crowell formerly of Potter. He has suffered from infantile paralysis for several months and spent much time in an Iron Lung in an Omaha hospital. A setback has slowed progress, but hope remains for eventual recovery.
The Busy Neighbors club met at the home of Mirs Herbert Johnson for a meeting on decorative objects ideas. Each member crafted a pin tray and a lunch was served by Mrs. Johnson and assistant hostess Mrs. R. B. Hill.
Despite cold roads, the Lag ion dance on Wednesday drew good crowds and solid earnings. The next "had time" dance is set for Friday February 25 with a date change from the regular routine.
Harold Kitche of Santa Rosa California visited the home of Mrs. George Reetz Sunday. He wasn t to Sterling Colorado a few weeks by the serious illness of his father who is now much improved in heals. He returned to California this week and was accompanied by Irving Ogard.
Miss Marjoriette Millam left Monday for Long Beach to visit her sister Mrs Willard Christensen. Miss MicMillan struggles to regain strength after pneumonia and California sunshine is hoped to aid recovery.
Chas A. Green of Sidney says he plans to file for unicameral legislature. Green has previously served as state senator from this district and was a caller in Potter Tuesday.
Pauline Johnson daughter of Mr and Mrs Alfred Johnson has been quite ill this week after a tonsillectomy in Sidney a few days ago Fred C Johncomb of Denver visited relatives here Saturday during a brief business trip.
