Dalton meets Potter in a Friday showdown on the Porter floor to end the season. Potter carries one conference loss, Dalton began slow but surged last month winning many games. A seven oclock preliminary leads to an eight oclock main event, with strong local support urged.
Those attending the mother daughter banquet on February 28 are urged to buy tickets early for meal and seating arrangements. Tickets at 50 cents are available at Leyfang and Johnson stores or from committee members Doris Juelfs Alice Hagemeister Leora Reetz Ruby Kaderli. Reservations should be made on or before February 24 as annual events draw capacity crowds.
At the Dalton county meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary last week Mrs. Roy L. MacAdam of Potter was elected county president and Mrs. Claude Smith of Lodge Pole was chosen vice president.
Mr and Mrs Lee Hagemeister hosted a farewell dinner for Mrs Gertrude Reard on Tuesday evening. Mrs Read plans to leave Saturday for Grand Island to visit her daughter Mrs Howard Kelly.
The Ladies Guild will meet in the Lutheran church parlors on the afternoon of Thursday February 22. Everyone is cordially invited.
The February 22 program at Potter High School showcases educational science displays. Attendees will see heatless cooking on a stove, sparks from electric demonstrations, voice recording on a screen, and gyroscope demonstrations including a large man-wrestling gyro. Admission is 25 cents for adults. school children enter free.
The Potter Community Boosters club sponsors a Finnish Relief fund drive that closes after receiving 48.25 in donations. The final list shows contributors including Dont Mention My Name, M Leafdale, Rev C R Tanner, and C Edgar Leafdale, totaling 48.25.
Glenna Rose Lipska Louie Van Raay and Betty Jean Oeltjen celebrate birthdays with candy bars, cherry ice cream, and cake as grades study graphs fractions and zeros. Spelling, Lincoln stories, geography, valentine party, safety posters, and a museum exhibit accompany sports results, declamatory contest awards, Lincoln program, and a Potter versus Sidney recap.
The first Wednesday in weeks with no snow or precipitation was recorded this year. Storms had regularly begun on Wednesdays, but this time the day was fair and warm. Some suggested the weatherman smiled on mailmen delivering catalogs unimpeded by storms.
A string of social visits and gatherings across Antelope area families including Hagemeister, Larson, Olsen, Spen cer, and Nelson households. Events include Sunday dinners, Friday turkey supper, a Farmers Union meeting, and plans for a February pie social at district 31 school house with an open invitation. Next Dewey Larson gathering planned for March 8.
The Wi C T U will meet Wednesday February 21 at 2 30 p m at the home of Mrs Tanner with Mrs Wm Hagemeister as program leader. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Harry Courtright arrived back Wednesday from Sterling Colorado where he attended the funeral of a distant relative rockf ae.
Alex Spencer and Chauncey Nelson attend the state convention in Omaha representing local chapters Sex torp and Ante ope Divide. Mrs Spencer accompanies them and is scheduled for a thyroid operation in Omaha, her second such procedure.
A February 1 gathering at Edgar Leafdale’s home honored Mrs. A M Leafdale, Mrs. Gilbert Hougen, and Mrs. Bud Larsen with bingo and cards. Attendees included many local families. Edgar Leafdale and Alfred Jeinson traveled to Denver. other notes mention quilting, hospital visits, and birthday celebrations across the community.
Mr and Mrs Ray Arnell of Dalton and C S Thorpe of Dix were guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Roy L MacAdam on Sunday.

AKlug e shipment of Montgomery Ward catalogues arrived at the post office this week. Wednesday mailmen faced a heavy load as they rolled carts away from the post office. Catalogues were trucked in and postmarked locally. The company had bought stamps previously for the Potter list and likely follows the same system nationwide. Each catalogue bore six cents postage. The narrator notes mailmen endure rough roads but catalogs remain a mailman’s nightmare.
Standing for the Lodgepole Valley Association with games last week reported by Lloyd B McCann. Bushnell 40 Burns 36 and 40 Goodview 22 St Patricks 42 Lisco 22 Potter 31 Gurley 16. Potter 33 Sidney Reserves 20 Dalton 34 Sidney Reserves 20 St Patricks 54 St Agnes 12.
The Ogallala Lions club plans a strong A. A. TI. tournament in Ogallala March 4-6 with entries from Lodge Pole, Sidney Hall Insurance, North Platte, Alliance Merchants, Madrid, Potter, Graviton Dodge Plymouth, and Ogallala. Additional towns Wauneta McCook Grant Maywood and Scottsbluff are expected to enter.
Clouds darken this Thursday as a new snow event appears likely before hours pass. Radio reports place snowfall in Colorado points at 9:30 this morning and Denver expecting snow by noon. A northeast storm advancing at fifteen miles per hour suggests this week's usual system may arrive a day late.
Cecil Woods of Santa Clara California visited old time friends here last Friday while en route to Detroit for a new car. He traveled with his parents Mr and Mrs Chas Woods, who formerly lived here for many years before moving seventeen years ago.
All present Potter school faculty were offered contracts for the 1940 41 school year. It is unknown how many will re contract as they have until the next board meeting to decide. Supt. A B Connell was contracted the month previous for next year.
The Lutheran church invites parishioners to Sunday worship and a sermon titled Now is the accepted time. Sunday school begins at 9 45 a m with a 3 p m sermon by Dr W T Kahse pastor.
Next Sunday is the second Sunday of lent with a worship service. This Sunday evening February 18 a covered dish supper at 6 o'clock invites all. Rev Law of Kimball will give a talk on his Labrador trip. The Mother Daughter banquet is planned for Wednesday February 28. tickets should be secured early.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson and Mrs. Thomas Iverson visited Mrs. Iverson at the Veterans hospital in Cheyenne on Monday. They report Tom as definitely improving though slow, indicating cautious recovery.
As we go to press this Thursday evening two events draw large crowds. The declamatory contest at the school and the bowls match between Potter and Kimball teams promise lively competition and community participation.
