Following a mas meeting vote the school board prepares preliminary plans for a proposed new school building and an election advertisement is expected soon. Details are undecided whether to include a gymnasium auditorium or extra rooms with final decision resting on voters and possible P W A grant.
Col A B Rapp of Potter purchased the Sidney sale pavilion from Lee Gains last week. He will continue Saturday sales and plans improvements to the building and yards. The facility will be named the Sidney Livestock Sale Pavilion and will mainly handle livestock.
The Potter village board met February 5 1934 at 7 30 p m with Chairman Schwartz and Trustees Arnell, Johnitt, Gunderson and Johnson present. Minutes approved and a motion to order a new water pressure gauge for the light plant passed. Claims were reviewed and approved in detail, including payrolls and utilities. A resident proposed piping water to the cemetery. discussion ensued but no decision. Board adjourned.
G Reetz of Bloomfield Nebraska died Monday after a long illness life despaired weeks ago. He is father of George and Fred Reetz of Potter and was well known in the area through his connections. Both sons are in Bloomfield and will attend the funeral.
The corn hog allotment program progresses as committees set offices at the Mayer building in Potter. Pleasant View, Trognitz, and Potter precincts appoint committeemen and assistants, with offices open daily until February 24. Farmers urged to file papers early. incomplete filings require in-person interviews, delaying the project.

Patrick J Dalton a Cheyenne county resident for nearly five decades died at a local hospital after pneumonia. He homesteaded in 1885 and was a leading agriculturist in the county. Funeral services will be at 9 30 am Tuesday at the Catholic church with Rev Anton Link officiating. Interment in Catholic cemetery. Survivors include his wife and nine children.
Potter defeated Scottsbluff 30 to 20 in a Tuesday night game at Scottsbluff. Potter led 14 to 10 at halftime after trailing early, and the win adds to Potter’s season tally though it was not a conference game. The second fragment notes a meteorite found near Crawford identified by H. H. Ninegar of Denver.
Bills are out for a dance Saturday night sponsored by the Potter Volunteer Fire Department. Music will be supplied by the Potter Bohemian Orchestra. Admission is 50 cents.
The Potter Community Boosters club sponsors a free talking picture show at Seyfang hall next Tuesday February 20 at 7 30 p m. Northwestern Bell Telephone company furnishes the films and the Potter high school orchestra provides music. The event offers an evening of good clean entertainment and is open to the public.
The corn hot allotment committee for Potter Pleasant View and Trognitz precincts urges every farmer in the district to meet them at the former Walker store building in Potter this week or next week at the latest. Regardless of eligibility for a contract it is important to attend.
The Walker Store closed last week and its stock and fixtures were disposed of. The owner B L Walker leaves Potter with three general merchandise and grocery stores and one meat market. He moved to this town from Sidney and has not announced future plans.
Walter Wellman longtime journalist died aged 75. He began in Sut ton Nebraska at 14 and at 21 started the Cincinnati Evening Post. He later published the Chicago Herald and the Record-Herald. Wellman sought the North Pole four times and made early attempts to fly the Atlantic with a dirigible in 1910, rescued by the Trent off Cape Hatteras. He earlier located and marked Columbus landfall at San Salvador.
A coyote roundup at Brule collected five coyotes along with a large number of rabbits. The operation involved local wildlife officers and landowners, aiming to reduce predation on livestock and garden crops.
John McIntosh recalls Potter’s frontier roots at the 1934 Pioneer Day meeting. He notes the town’s 1871 arrival, the telegraph era, cattle wealth, and the shift to modern life while praising pioneers, community spirit, and the enduring link between past and present in Cheyenne County.
The Potter Coyotes post a .916 winning rate this season, with 11 victories in 12 games against strong foes. Notable scores include Dec 20 Potter 20 Gurley 10 and Feb 13 Potter 30 Scottsbluff 20, with remaining games slated against Kimball, St Patricks, Broadwater.
