Potter Rifle Club lost a Tuesday match to Kimball by 41 points, 2454 to 2413, counting the ten highest scores on one side. Scores show Kimball leading after the first string and maintaining the margin through the final relay.
I E Sortor notes Sunday school now at 9 45 am with a 10 am start avoided. Morning service at 11 am with special music and sermon Religion and Prosperity. Men’s Bible class resumes with a designated room. Epworth League meets 6 30 pm with lesson. Mid Winter Institute Feb 19 20 21 in west end Kearney district banquet Friday 6 30 pm. Evening service 7 30 pm Unity. Choir meets Wednesday 7 30 pm in school music room. All welcome and urged to invite others.
Notice states the Potter State Bank will be closed all day Friday February 12 1932 in observance of Lincoln's Birthday.
Democratic nominee candidate fT. O. Merchant of Hastings visited Potter last week, calling on Dr. W. T. Sloan and meeting voters. Merchant is a practicing attorney with years in the Burlington railroad auditing department and argues tariff experience is needed for railway commissioner.
Drs. Mockett and Everett opened a new hospital in Kim Ball on Saturday drawing many visitors to the facility formerly named the Kim ballast institution.
Potter high school Coyotes push their streak to ten straight victories with a 23 to 17 win over Lodge Pole and a 22 to 12 win at Kimball. Coach Fowler’s squad showcases a compact, quick style, with a notable half time boxing feature and praise from state press for their battle against larger teams. Dalton visits tonight for a return game amid local excitement.
The Harrisburg grade school, a two story frame building about 40 years old, burned to the ground last Wednesday evening. Fire started in the roof. with no local waterworks, it was fought with small extinguishers. Contents of the lower room were saved. upper room equipment burned. No one was inside. last occupant left minutes before. Origin blamed on a defective chimney. Insured for 2200 dollars. temporary school to be held in the church until new facilities are arranged.
For the weekend of February 13 to 14 Union Pacific will sell round trip chair car tickets from Potter to Denver for 4.25 dollars. For information about train service sales dates and return limits call or see a Union Pacific agent.
A school column notes students train in athletics music and business studies while Bessie and Marion Hinek move to Laramie with parents and Irma Moench returns to class after a week away. The piece quotes Thomas P. Tobin praising Lincoln's public life and character as essential in business and government. Earl Nielsen missed two days last week.
First grade notes perfect attendance by Lois Hagemeister Ardeen Wallin and Robert Gibbins. Others missing one lesson include Lee Johnson Evelyn Helzer and several more. Mrs Rapp with family visited to see plants while Mrs Mershheim viewed her fern. Amarillis blooms and buds decorate the room as the class studies George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in a patriotic month.
Those who achieved a perfect spelling score last week include Mable Haddin, Marilyn Miller, Genevieve Schwartz, Billy Shea and Floyd Iverson. Absent from last week’s session were Eric Winn, Junior Grothe, Kenneth Merscheim and Genevieve Schwartz.
Mrs Fisher visited our room last week and third grade displays feature poetry booklets. Students scoring 100 in spelling include Harrison Stines Schwartz Erickson Snocker Coulter Anderson Stormberg with several absences noted. A Valentine box is planned for Friday. Fifth and sixth grade teacher Mrs Babcock was here Tuesday. Absent last week were Fisher Fisher Henrikson Lowden Nelson Seyfang Snocker Helzer Anderson Babcock Babcock Lovell Robertson Helzer. June Brady returned Monday after a three week eastern state visit. Seventh and eighth grade reading class studying David Copperfield by Dickens. We are working on a Washington modem to be given Monday February 22. The eighth grade arithmetic class.
Jirna Moench returns as class resumes with Latin third declension. At the school house last Wednesday freshmen were entertained by Roland Biggs Stewart Nelson and Earl Moench with Bunco as the evening's amusement. A lunch was served by the boys and all reported a jolly good time.
Marion and Bessie Hinek left the school. Max Malone returns after several days away. Students finished Idylls of the King. The junior class hosted a Valentine party for freshmen. Civil war studies wrap in American history. Physics explores levers and mechanics. English plans grammar and composition. Commercial law covers contract phases. Telma Coulter staged a Friday stunt for basketball. Dorothy Harrison was absent Monday. Hazel Jacobson and others were absent Wednesday afternoon. Faye Bovee and Floy Thayer participated in Partners Union Friday and were absent.
A short musical program was given at the Ladies Aid last Wednesday by high school students. Performances included piano solo Sing me to Sleep by Bernice Babcock, a Girls sextette, cello solo To a Wild Rose by Floy Thayer, and Cornet Solo Polka by Stewart Nelson. The seventh and eighth grades study Indian music while fifth and sixth focus on rhythm in various time signatures. First grade to entertain Mrs Quein with Toy Orchestra. High school classes plan a March 11 program. Visitors included Mrs Babcock Mrs Fisher and Dorothy Sortor.
Western Conference notes show the Coyotes defeating Lodge Pole 23 to 17 as a clash of giants pressured long range shooting. Christensen scored, Wheeler and Coulter contributed on defense, and four players were disqualified for fouls in a rough contest.
The piano pupils performed for parents and teachers last Monday. Eleanor Nelson welcomed with a musical poem and Mrs Slocumb awarded red carnations. The program lists 19 entries including solos, duets, and a Beethoven Minuet in G and Blue Danube Waltz.
Mr and Mrs L K Nelson longtime residents of the south divide hosted a large gathering last Friday for their 57th anniversary. Many relatives including children grandchildren and great grandchildren attended along with Mr and Mrs Andrew Anderson Mr and Mrs Mads Larson of Potter and Dr P C Mockett and son Paul of Kimball. The community extends congratulations and best wishes for many more years of happiness.
The community benefit sale last Saturday afternoon proved more successful than expected with about $72 realized. Auctioneers Cols, Joe P Schwartz and A B Rapp assisted, with clerk and printer services also covered, and all proceeds going to the community club relief fund.
The B H H club met with Mrs Stockamp and elected officers for 1932: Mrs Frank Smith president, Mrs Earl Tolle vice president, and Mrs Robert Magee secretary treasurer. Next meeting February 18 will be with Mrs Edith Connelly. Glenn Williams returned home for a visit from Kirk neighborhood and reports good snow conditions. The chaivari crowd serenaded Mr and Mrs T J Bickell at the Ben Gourd home Monday evening. Mrs Jerome Kafka is very ill. Mr and Mrs Frank Williams moved to the School farm for the summer. Mrs Ben Couch and Mrs T J Bickell visited Mrs Emma Williams. Emma Williams spent Tuesday at the Thurston home. A correction: Miss Mildred Jacobson did violin solos at the Kimball Country club program, not the Lions club.
