A man described a Ford as able to turn around on a dime and have a nickel left, a quirky remark illustrating the car’s perceived maneuverability and value.

Seattle saw its first winter snowfall covering the city with several inches of white. A report to the National League of Women's Service shows women employed in munition factories rising from 3,500 in 1910 to over 100,000 in 1917, part of 1,266,000 women engaged in industrial work essential to war efforts.

The Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners met February 5 1918 at the Court House Sidney with two members present and others listed. Audited claims include Sidney Lumber Company Neb Telephone Company Western Drug Co and many individuals for coal supplies postage transportation and salaries with warrants to be drawn on various funds. The fourth Lyceum course number appeared Tuesday evening at the Methodist church. Kathryn Paden and Marguerite Saft led a lively program of songs violin and piano solos readings readings and costume impersonations. Epworth League offered coffee and sandwiches afterward. Swiss butter limits updated to one fifth of a pound per person monthly.
A Nebraska note from the national War Savings Stamp committee praises the state for organizing 996 selling agencies, including 538 specialty agents and 457 agent banks, with Omaha as state headquarters. The message urges more agencies to outpace Texas and other states, aiming for one agent per 200 to 300 residents.
Philadelphia cloth weavers began a strike halting production across multiple mills. Organizers cited wage cuts and unsafe conditions while employers warned of delays and possible layoffs as negotiations stalled. Public helpers urged restraint to avoid shortages.
Professor L E Gunderson superintendent of Potter schools and Eva C Kerr a West Point kindergarten teacher were married in Council Bluffs Iowa on January 26 1918 at 1130 AM before his military service. Both graduates of Kearney State Normal 1916 they taught at West Point and Potter. The couple receive best wishes from friends and community.
Prof L H Gunderson superintendent of Potter schools and teacher at West Point schools married in Council Bluffs on Saturday. He plans to enter military service soon. Graduates include Pierre High, Kearney Normal, and West Point High. Bride is daughter of former city mayor M E Kerr.
Red Cross appropriations for work in Italy from November 1, 1917, to May 1, 1918, total 4 771 990 dollars.
