The Sunday school meets at ten o'clock and the morning worship begins at eleven with special music and the sermon Lincoln the Man. The Intermediate and Epworth Leagues meet at six thirty and invite all young people to attend. An illustrated lecture on The Women of India will be given. Evening worship starts at seven thirty with the sermon A Battle Royal. The choir practices Wednesday at seven thirty. all members urged to attend.

New Outdoor Rifle Range Opens Near Potter
A new outdoor rifle range for high powered guns has been built on Nielsen place near Potter by the rifle club. About 40 members are active as shooting at 500 yards yields solid scores with many 40s and better of 50 possible. The club offers indoor and outdoor ranges with ample firearms and ammunition to keep members busy.

Pirates to host Pine Bluffs in next Tuesday game
The Pine Bluffs All-Stars will be the Pirates next home opponent in a February 10 game at the high school gym. Admission is 10 and 20 cents. The February 3 Pine Bluffs game was postponed because their gymnasium was in use.

Johnson bill seeks Nebraska school smoking ban
Senator C W Johnson filed a measure prohibiting smoking in all school buildings and state institutions. He also proposes raising auto theft penalties from 100 to 300 dollars and imprisonment from three to ten years. The current law imposes one to ten years for attempt to steal and receiving stolen cars, which would rise to three to ten years under the bill.

Giant Mammoth Tusk Found In Nebraska Field
Paleontologists report a record long Imperial Mammoth tusk found near Deweese at the Fred Krell gravel pit. The tusk measures nearly ten feet with a twenty inch circumference, later found to be part of a pair forming a fourteen foot single tusk. Restoration will add length and base work, with life tusks perhaps sixteen feet long and weighing over 600 pounds.

Potter Hi Alumni Visit Noted At School
Edgar Leafdale and Byron Pavlat, Potter High School graduates of 1924, visited the high school last Thursday along with other alumni. Mrs Esther Carlson also visited. The school praised attendance at a library benefiting literary program, with $26.30 door receipts half given to the library. The district basketball tournament is set for Lodgepole with dates to be announced. Junior play and roller skating party at Sidney were noted, and shorthand students pursue an O G A copy contest with certificates for passing standards.

County responds strongly to Red Cross drought appeal
Cheyenne county, a western farming area, ships five carloads of foodstuffs to Wynne Arkansas for Red Cross relief. The haul includes over 20,000 pounds of potatoes corn beans wheat lard and flour from Potter community and Witt Milling & grain with local cash and grain donations. The load totals ten tons of food outside flour with flour supplied by Potter mill and Sidney wheat donations. Gas was sold for twelve cents plus tax in Potter for two days backed by broad support from residents and nearby towns. The price matched Sidney and nearby areas until a compromise at Sidney raised gas again. The episode yielded valuable experience for future reference.

Potter Edges Dalton 7-6 On Narrow Dalton Floor
Potter defeated Dalton 7-6 on the Dalton floor Friday January 30. Potter led 4-2 at halftime after a couple of Chris tensen shots and a late field goal. Frost tied one free shot and Willard produced a desperate field goal to put Potter ahead 7-6 in the final moments as Dalton failed to convert. Referee M C Greene performed his duties efficiently.

John Seyfang Receives Railroad Pension
John Seyfang foreman of the west section of Union Pacific has received word that his pension is allowed and he is retired with a monthly income about 60 dollars. He served 38 years with Union Pacific, including an initial five years, a one year gap, then 33 years of continuous service. The pension is based on the 33 year period. Tex Parsons of Potter now leads the vacated section. Also listed are for sale notices for Hampshire boars and buff orpington and bronze birds from Mrs A F Nielsen.
