A midweek weather shift brought fog and low visibility followed by light snow that piled into drifts under a high northwest wind. Temperatures neared zero as the storm intensified, halting traffic briefly before improving with a fair day and rapidly rising temperatures.
The Epworth League of the Potter Hodist Church plans sessions at 9 30 Saturday at the Methodist church with a 5 30 banquet. Notable leaders expected include Chancellor Schwartz of Nebraska and District Superintendent Man. Programs were mailed last week.
A brief note notes the arrival of Peacock coal, promising strong heat and versatile use. The message is informal and centers on Hagemeister’s promotion of the new coal brand.
Potter Coyotes defeated Dalton 38 to 17 last Friday as reserves were used by coach Barrett once the margin widened. A separate reserve victory 20 to 6 followed. Sunol topped Potter 27 to 16 on Wednesday in a strong showing, with Potter reserves winning 13 to 7 in a hard fought game. Next week Potter hosts Goodview Tuesday and Gurley Friday.
The Northwestern Bell line crew has spent ten days repairing and improving town lines. New poles and wire have been installed with the village assisting where electric light and telephone lines interfere or share poles. After completing town work, the crew will move north toward the new feeder road.
Good news from the Cheyenne veterans hospital reports Thomas Iverson is improving after a serious condition last week. Visitors include Mr. and Mrs. Herman Moench and Marvin Moench among others as he recovers with family backing.
Farm buyers report EggrrP Urina Calf Meal, sold as a cheaper substitute for milk to raise calves. Vendors claim better weight gain for calves and lower feed costs, with Hage meisters cited as promoters and distributors.
Mr and Mrs C J Brady and their children visited Denver and attended the stock show during the first part of the week, sampling exhibits and viewing livestock displays.
Mrs. Kate Hansen aged 81 died after a brief illness. She lived in Potter for 26 years with her daughter Mrs. Peter Hansen and family. Funeral services were held at Potter Methodist church February 1 1989, with a Dannebrog service the following day. Interment was in Dannebrog cemetery beside her husband and daughter. Survivors include her daughters Rose Hansen and Nora Jason and a large circle of friends.
The family thanks all who offered sympathy during the illness and death of Mrs. Kate Hansen. They express sincere appreciation for the kindness shown, including Rev. Tanner, the singers, pallbearers, and the Rice services.
Visitors in our room were Mrs Anna Connell Joan Beverly Carlson Mrs Ernest Anderson and Miss Virginia Scott. Janice Anderson celebrated her sixth birthday Friday with marshmallow snowmen and party games. Readers were distributed for arithmetic and students used art stories in afternoon reading along with Health Stories in language class.
During the opening exercises last week Tommie Kubes joined the honor roll. Leona Tank’s rabbit was chosen best poking bunny in the Bunny Rabbit beauty contest. Absent pupils returning later: Lester Johnson Joy Seyfang Douglas Hensman. Spelldown winners Harold Fiegenschuh and Margaret Ann Gunderson. Spelling weigh scores include Gerald Christensen Janice Juelfs Tommie Kubbes Jeanne McMillan Leona Tank and others.
Mrs Joe Schwwartz James Mrs Anna Con nell and Joan visited Wednesday afternoon. Clayton Schwartz celebrated his tenth birthday in the room. Eskimo scenes drawn in art class. Health Club officers elected for February: president Marjorie Smith secretary Joyce Juelfs treasurer Bradley Jacobson. Apple Day observed. Valentines drawn and exchanged. Coyote pack beat Dalton 38 17 on home floor, 2nd win in 3 home starts. High points Henry McMillan 10 each. Tos ter led Dalton with 8. Walter Cox fouled out. Coach Barrett used many substitutions after the first quarter.

Funeral home and relatives express gratitude for kind deeds in memory of a mother. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hanseh and Mr. and Mrs. George Jason among others acknowledge floral tokens and support during the difficult hour.
Potter town basketeers edged Kimball 38 to 35 as Leo Fisher led Potter with 17 points and Keith Schwartz added 8. Donald Biggs of Kimball topped visitors with 12, Tex adding 9. Potter notches sixth win in seven starts and hosts Bushnell Friday at 8 p.m. with 10 cent admission.
Gordon Johnson was injured yesterday afternoon when his car veered out of control and overturned near the Joe Musil home north of Potter. He was taken to Sidney for examination, but authorities believe his injuries are not serious. The car was badly wrecked.
Mrs. C C Hansen died in Omaha and funeral services were held at Dannebrog yesterday. The obituary notes she was well known in the area and compares her service with that for Mrs. Kate Hansen of Potter.
The February meeting of the Potter Community Boosters club was postponed due to Rev J J Sheaff’s absence. The meeting will now be held Wednesday evening February 8 at Stines cafe, starting at 6 30. A large attendance is desired.
The county convention of Auxiliary and Legion will be held in the Legion rooms at the city auditorium in Sidney on next Thursday evening February 9 starting at 7 30. Legal members are urged to attend and transportation will be arranged for those without cars or who do not wish to drive.
St Pauls Lutheran Church led by Pastor H Boehnke located 12 miles northeast of Potter and 13 miles west of Gurley offers Sunday school at 9 30 and church at 10 00 with services conducted in German Walther League meets at 7 30 PM
Pastor W T Kahse invites worshipers to Sunday services at 2 15 p m Bible school and 3 p m sermon titled The Por ward Call. Join the congregation for worship and reflection.
The Methodist Church invites worship next Sunday with church school at 10, worship at 11, and 7 30 in the evening. The mid winter institute for young people is scheduled for Saturday February 11. Mrs Kate Hansen has left the church after many years of faithful service, regarded as Heaven's gain.

Mr and Mrs Chas Neaman returned Sunday from North Platte where Mr Neaman underwent an operation. He withstood the procedure nicely and now seems well on the road to recovery.
Mrs Christina Peterson and children mourn the loss of a husband and father. The verse laments the long hours of loneliness, notes the angels called him to the promised land, and expresses hope of joining him in heaven.
Mrs J W Slama departed this morning for Denver to visit her sons. The family reports Fred recently suffered a severe leg fracture after slipping on the ice.
The Potter Redington feeder road will be extended about 24 miles beyond the original 6.4 mile contract. Bids on the initial 6.4 mile stretch ran to about 19 000 dollars, prompting officials to use the full appropriation and extend the project. Surveyor L H Bischof and team are on site with construction to begin around April 1, making this county's first such feeder road project this year.
The Ladies Aid society will meet on February 8 1939 at the Methodist church parlors. Mrs Lowe of Kimball will discuss her travels. Hostesses include Mrs Albert Nielsen Mrs Joe Johnson Mrs R B Hill Mrs C C Pritchard Mrs W T Sloan Mrs Alex Spencer and Mrs W C Sheets. Everyone is invited to attend.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Sheets hosted a turkey dinner Sunday to honor birthdays of Mrs Chas Stanton, Charles Sheets, and Burdette Gustafson. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Chas Stanton, Mr and Mrs W C Sheets with children, Mrs Gustafson and son Burdette, Mrs Blanch Booth with son Merle, and Elmer Rasmussen.
Mrs W T Sloan departed Monday for Sidney Iowa to visit her daughter Zada who teaches in the Sidney schools.
