Sidney Woman Burned to Death at Bert Steele Farm
Sidney resident Mrs Varsa Leonard 85 was burned to death Saturday evening at the Bert Steele farm a mile north east of Sidney. Authorities said the cigarette ignited her clothing while she slept on the bed. Leonard, the widow of Leonard of Prairie, was found in the kitchen by Steele’s stepfather Gocovered the body within minutes. A small burned patch of flesh was found on the bed and a door held burn marks where she fell. The house smelled of smoke as firemen arrived and investigated the tragedy.
