Potter hosts an outdoor family event on Saturday December 17 with an inspiration service of song and Santa handing out 400 candy and nut sacks to children. Sponsored by the American Legion with support from the Auxiliary, Potter Community Boosters club and a golf club fund. Children under 99 urged to attend on Potter’s main street at 2 30 p.m.

Sophomores gathered Friday night at the school house to begin a scavenger hunt seeking 25 distinct objects. Teams planned routes and shared clues, turning the event into a lively campus activity.
Finest Snow Of Years Falls Here Saturday
One of the finest snows in western Nebraska blanketed the area last Saturday. Snow began after noon and reached seven inches depth with no wind, piling on fence posts and reducing visibility at times. Precipitation was 0.67 inches but some moisture was lost in sub zero temperatures. Temperature hovered around 40 above zero during the storm, then dropped to 12 below zero Monday morning. By midweek temperatures moderated but not enough to melt much. Highways became treacherous. Lincoln highway fully snow covered for first time since paved. Dozens of cars damaged from skidding, no serious injuries reported. Snow shovels in great demand.

Andrew Peterson aged 69 longtime Deuel county sheriff died in Chappell Sunday. He had served 24 years and was known across western Nebraska former Union Pacific railroad worker and Masonic member. Survived by his widow two sons Dr Roy Peterson Oshkosh and Andrew Peterson Jr cashier First State Bank Lodge Pole. Masonic funeral held Tuesday at 2 pm at Chappell Methodist Church burial in Chappell cemetery.

Harry E. Chase of Potter and Helen Cunningham of Atkinson wed at noon last Friday December 9 1938. The ceremony took place at the bride’s mother Mrs Lloyd Cunningham residence and was officiated by Rev. David A. Cunningham of Oberlin Kansas. Mrs Chase taught in Sidney schools for four years and Harry works as an electrician at Potter light plant. The couple will reside in the Ross property area west side of town and the community wishes them long happiness.

West Plains drilling to begin after finance for test
Sidney Telegraph reports drilling equipment assembled at the West Plains test site. Capital is subscribed by businessmen and farmers from Sidney Potter Kimball and Sterling Colo. Lee BD Osborn of Sidney organized the venture and secured the geology. If plans hold, drilling should start within weeks to test the structure, with funds in place for an adequate test.
