Marshal Wassily Sokolovsky in a letter to Gen. Lucius Clay denounces the Western currency reform as illegal and warns against introducing new money into Berlin. He says only one currency can circulate in Berlin in the Soviet zone and accuses the Western allies of dividing Germany.
An official said the army will call between 200000 and 225000 inductees in the first year of the draft program to cover net losses from expiring enlistments. If volunteer enlistments hold, draftee numbers may drop. future calls depend on voluntary recruitment.
Irrigation water will flow Wednesday for 25 000 acres of the Black Canyon pumping unit north west of Caldwell. A celebration will mark the opening at the C W Holmes farm. Pumps tested Friday lift water 90 feet from the canal to main canals and await laterals to water about 12000 acres north of Middleton. The four pumps can raise 125 cubic feet per second each, 225 000 gallons per minute, with two 23 mile main canals and 135 miles of laterals completed.
The Gate City Quartet from Pocatello Twelfth ward earned a special honor at the general LDS conference in Salt Lake City.
