Allied reports say French and British troops held the line between the Marne and Oureq as German assaults were repelled. Prisoners were taken, counter attacks succeeded along the front, and morale among Allied forces remained high despite sustained pressure near Chateau-Thierry and Bouresches.
Washington June 3 The Supreme Court declared the 1916 federal child labor law unconstitutional and invalid, striking down interstate shipment prohibitions on products made by child labor.
Washington June 3 The United States Fuel Administration designated the week beginning today as Coal Week a nationwide drive to induce those needing coal for winter to lay in supplies now. Officials say early purchases ease future shortages as government needs rise and winter demand looms.
Under orders of the war department three training camps for college students open today at Plattsburg New York Fort Sheridan and the Presidio San Francisco. About 6500 students from 120 colleges with senior officers training corps units will receive one month of practical military training.

Bannock county lists Pocatello as registration HQ with 7 am to 9 pm hours and others in Soda Springs Downey Grace Lava Hot Springs McCammon and Bancroft. Ill or disabled registrants notify the local exemption clerk for a registrar visit. those away from home must register at local boards.
Louisville observers note the U S army chaplain school will graduate its second class at Camp Zachary Taylor. Ninety ministers from various denominations attend, many once pastors in major cities. Some graduates have been commissioned as chaplains while others await appointment. the program trains clergy to fit civil life into military structure.
Washington reports say bases and subs operate in the Mexican Gulf theater as fourteen vessels sunk rumors rise. The Cole was attacked by two U boats one boarded the schooner and bombed the crew evacuated before the explosion. Norfolk warns capes wary as U boats sighted and port closes to outbound ships.

Washington report June 9 states Secretary Daniels announces the navy department is taking necessary steps to protect shipping routes along the coast.
Washington reports three American schooners sunk by enemy submarines off Barnegat New Jersey Sunday morning. The Bristol rescued crew from the Cole and another vessel, while the Haskell and Willey were reported sunk or shelled. Captain Newcomb described a 200 foot submarine with two guns and a second submarine sighted nearby.
Two American vessels the Hattie Dunn and Samuel W Hathaway were sunk by submarines. The liner Carolina sent an S O S claiming attack and was overdue with 220 passengers and 120 crew. Atlantic coast stations ordered vessels to assist and a British ship reported aiding sinking tankers off New Jersey.
A steamship one schooner and two or three other vessels were sunk by German submarines off the Jersey coast this morning. Port authorities halted outgoing ships this afternoon. One ship was the Edward H. Cole. Rumors of German submarines near the American coast have circulated for two weeks. Continued on Page Two.
