A Christmas death toll rises across the nation with more than 231 killed in various incidents. The report lists tragedies from Auburn Maine to Wellsburg West Virginia including children, family quarrels, train and auto crashes, streetcar deaths, and a wrongful fatality on Christmas Day.

Newton D. Baker former secretary of war died in Cleveland at age sixty six after a heart attack. He had been ill since Dec 3 and had resumed some law work in Cleveland.
