The Pocatello city council enacted a Sunday rest ordinance at a special meeting Tuesday evening. All members attended except Martin and Fusz. It passed first reading Monday and then with suspension of the rules Tuesday, modeled on the state law but without a city enforcement misdemeanor provision. No newspaper notice was given for the Tuesday session.

Funeral of Rube Vanderbeek Held in Los Angeles
The pioneer Short Line engineer Rube Vanderbeek died suddenly of heart disease in Los Angeles. His funeral began at 2:30 PM from Manassa Undertaking Parlors. Interment was under the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Attending were J. B. Baxter, son-in-law and former People’s Store employee, now with S. J. Burt & Brothers in Ogden, and Mrs. Mary Hanks, a daughter residing in Logan.

Promoters mining engineers and others convicted of using the mails to defraud in the sale of stock in the Spanish Bullion Mines company were sentenced in Denver federal court. George B Dubois Lee Dubois and O L Blackwell got 30 days and $1000 fines. Others, including William Wilson W B Cameron A K Keables and Arthur Laurence, received 15 days and $9500 fines. Avil Levan and EK W Sidhon faced $100 fines and costs. Denton Pinus and Hihoe and $150 costs noted.

Chain gang strike halts LA grading work
About a hundred prisoners in the Los Angeles chain gang refused to work on grading tasks. Ten were jailed in dark cells with a ball and chain, placed on bread and water. The rest resumed work amid protest over treatment.
