Pocatello lodge 674 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks gears up for the Christmas Charity Ball next Saturday December 16 at the Elks temple. Admission equals a contribution to the Christmas fund with baskets of food toys clothing and fuel aiding those in need. The lodge previously raised a thousand dollars in 1938 for 300 baskets and aid through various charities and relief efforts.

Lois Jeanne Vannersdel 19 a Colorado State college sophomore was formally charged with assault with intent to kill and with a deadly weapon in a case tied to Walter Bud Lyons Aggie football star. The complaint filed in justice court names Mrs Jessie Lyons mother of the wounded man. Lyons shot Nov 29 in the girl's College avenue apartment and remains in hospital with a punctured left lung. Deputy District Attorney Winton M Rault notes the shooting followed a lovers quarrel.
About 100 members of the Idaho Beet Growers association gathered for their annual business meeting and election of state officers. Rep. Henry D. Dworshak spoke on future sugar beet legislation. Delegates reported on the San Francisco national association meeting of November 28 29. Officers named were Preston Ellsworth president M E Willis vice president and Alma Lindholm secretary treasurer. Willis expressed doubt about passing resolutions on sugar legislation or reciprocal trade treaties.
Idaho Falls authorities ordered an immediate halt to a $500000 hydro electric system expansion after a federal aid denial. Mayor Chase A. Clark warned the city may need to buy electricity next spring if a solution is not found.
Federal Judge C C Cavanah ruled two sub contractors must be paid 4508 and 19924 dollars by Otis Williams and Company Yale Oregon for work on the Upper Snake river federal irrigation project in Idaho.
