Railroads Seek 13 Percent Freight Rate Increase
The nation's railroads asked to raise freight rates by 13 percent, filing a petition with the Interstate Commerce Commission to add five percent atop the already sought eight percent. Railroad officials cite wage increases for conductors and workers as the reason, saying eight percent should be granted now and the extra five percent when feasible.
