Registration For Draft Is Painless Says Officials

Selective service officials told the Senate committee that new 19 through 25 draft registration will be painless, with some older exempt registrants possibly skipping questionnaires. Hershey outlined a plan to call 25 year olds first and defer most in the 22 to 25 group, while the army pursues a target monthly enlistment and may avoid drafting if volunteer rates rise. The drive aims to reach 790,000 total personnel, with 30,000 men to be drafted after January 1 if needed.
