Report of a Tuesday knife and rock attack near Clark that left one man unconscious and badly cut while another suspect, found drunk with a head scalp wound, was jailed. Eye witnesses described a cowardly assault. deputies and a posse investigated as locals anticipate a coal deal in Southern Utah and a planned Railroad Day celebration in Pioche with rail laying to resume.
Active work in the No 1 shaft owned by the Nevada Utah Company was commenced this week with extensive repairs on old machinery and installation of new parts. Everything is now in tip top shape and will permit extensive work for some time to come. The company expects to keep the shaft hustling to handle tonnage.
The Ohio Kentucky Company resumes main shaft sinking at the Susan Duster mine after weeks spent on a winze. A drift from the shaft followed the ore and the winze descended the vein to gauge ore extent. Management expects depth completion and a connecting drift to reveal a rich, extensive ore body unseen in Pioche in years.
Joseph Vietti a Fortuna leaser reported in town after supplies as development confirms a rich mine. One carload each of copper ore and rich silver ore prepared for shipment. Articles of incorporation filed Sept 10 for Fairview Probe Mining Company by Lee Fox Frank P. Smith Pioche and Walter W. Little Salt Lake City.
Mesars E L and A H Godbe, key backers of the Ohio Kentucky properties, have been in Pioche last week reviewing interests. They praise progress and grow convinced of value. E L Godbe tied to Probe Water Co says water system work is planned to be improved before cold weather.
Pioche shows a construction surge as homes and lodgings rise on Pioche street Main street Lacour street and Meadow Valley streets. ML Lee W Garrison H C Harmond and others add residences and lodging houses while the railroad nears Pioche boosting development. A L Murphy and A C Ellis visit mines planning three to four months on site in Bristol and mining grounds.
Excitement in Pioche over a suspected oil find in Meadow Valley Wash near Caliente. Ben Conger discovered shale, Nevada Utah test by Chas Swanton showed favorable results, prompting quick local action. Notable movers include Assessor John Roeder Geo Sawyer and Matthew Hunter, with interest rising about oil potential for Lincoln County.
W W Dunn and H C Rowley plan a concrete and steel lath two story structure with 35 feet frontage on Main and 80 feet on Meadow Valley. The contract amount is $7600 and work will start as soon as materials arrive. An assay office will be built on the Johnson corral site for Lansdowne and Drill, civil and mining engineers.

Chas S Miller president of the Boston and Probe Mining Company is due to arrive from Boston tomorrow for an inspection. His visit is expected to mean increased work on the Boston and Pioche properties. Hon Geo 8 Brown judge of the Fourth Judicial District Court is also due tomorrow to preside at Monday morning court session.
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners met September 9 1907 at 10 o'clock. Minutes from August and September 2 were read and approved. Salary funds were adjusted with transfers of 1000 to salary and 500 to district judge salary. Several claims were altered or disallowed. Delegates were appointed to the American Mining Congress in Joplin Missouri for November. Licenses issued to multiple individuals. several applications delayed for credentials. Goodsprings proposed a new school district. A road modification near Wambott Ranch was approved. Indigent care grant of 20 awarded. Las Vegas town government request postponed. Wood bids awarded to Lorenzo Heaps for 7.50 per cord. County may purchase the Nelson-Delamar toll road for 200. Meeting adjourned to September 16.
