Caliente Pioche Railroad Progress and Local Rail Day Plan

The Caliente Pioche railroad advances with passenger and freight service becoming available as the road improves. Montgomery is established, ticket sales will start, and a car will serve the agent until a depot is built. Freight traffic grows. work crews ballast and shore up the line while sidetracks go in. Officials hope to deploy lighter engines soon and consider a local Railroad Day picnic or excursion from Caliente and Panaca before turnover to the operating department.

Auditor Bettis Visits Caliente Pioche Branch

H I Bettis auditor of the San Pedro Los Angeles and Salt Lake railroad visited town on the first passenger coach to Caliente Pioche branch. He was to be joined by J Ross Clark and W H Bancroft but they were detained. Officials plan a meeting soon at Caliente or Salt Lake City to finalize service on the Pioche branch.

Misstatement Corrected in Local Sale and Ainslee Campbell Wins

The notice clarifies that the sale was between E. E. Greenwood of Pioche and Mark Churich with Greenwood holding the bond, and Col. MacSherry's involvement was only with Greenwood. The town calls for immediate repair of the road from town to the depot site. It is described as in deplorable condition with rocks and boulders blocking passage. Officials are urged to take prompt action due to its importance for freight and travel in the area.

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners met on November 4 1907 with Chair J A Nesbitt and members Banovich Lee Horsey and clerk W E Orr. Claims were adjusted including reductions for Ballance Denton Deck Vogel and others. New warrants authorize bridge costs at Caliente and Panaca with a 853 98 funding agreement. Appointments for night watchman fire marshal were made in Pioche Caliente Las Vegas and Hiko.

Porter Held to Answer on Salt Lake Route Assault Charge

Negro porter on the Salt Lake route charged with attempted assault on Miss Clawson of Salt Lake City. Preliminary examination before Mr Maynard of Caliente last week. Held to answer before the grand jury under a bail of 1000. If bail not given, remanded to Pioche and county jail.

Miner Killed In No 1 Shaft Accident At Nevada Utah

E E Hennifer a Nevada Utah corporation miner was killed when his head was caught between a cage and timbers in No 11 shaft at Caliente. He rang the bell and tried to board the moving cage, leaving a wife and seven children in Stockton Utah. Interment occurred in Salt Lake City after a local Western Federation of Miners service. The company and union expressed condolences.

Work Begins at the Smelter

Construction at the smelter site draws visitors as crews expand rail access for Nevada Utah Company ore. A new track covers the old ore king, ore from Day mine at Jackrabbit is dumped, and sidetracks from the roundhouse to the depot will shift freight to the Nevada Utah line.

Mining Claims Transferred in Comet District

During the week the necessary papers were executed completing the transfer of four mining claims in the Comet District from 8. B. Thornton to F. W. Dickle and associates. The claims show strong surface lead and a prominent ledge, justifying development. Purchase price not disclosed but described as substantial.

W. S. Anderson made the second substantial payment this week on the Silver King and Lucky Boy lode claims south of town. The purchases are described as very valuable from their location, with development likely to be vigorously prosecuted.

Taxes in Currency Required by County Treasurer

Owing to tight money markets the state treasurer will not accept checks or drafts for the county's state tax portion. Remittances must be in currency, deviating from the former certified-check method. Commissioner George T. Bangvich assisted in the county board’s first meeting.

E K Hackett president of Prince Consolidated Mining Co and major Ohio Kentucky holders visited Pioche with Dr Fred Stauffer Dr Walter Ellerbeck and A H Godbe of Salt Lake City to view holdings He praised conditions and hinted at forthcoming plans including smelters and reduction plants tied to the Bullionville and Prince properties aimed at an aggressive expansion.

Large Pioche Street Tax Sale Real Estate Auction

The Pioche Tax Sale saw a public auction of many lots on the lower Pioche street with lively bidding. Some parcels sold for up to eighty dollars and the average near thirty five dollars. Prospective builders dominated bidding and expect Pioche street to become a premier residential area with new houses soon. Mrs Tucker of Ely and Mrs Campbell of aa were noted in the event.
