Celebration At Panaca Recalls Town Festivities Game Thrills

Panaca celebration drew visitors from Caliente and Pioche with a Caliente Pioche baseball game a close nine to eight victory for Caliente. Manley and White starred on the mound as Pioche's Werk was sidelined by accident. Local scenes included literary exercises, A V Lee’s Nevada comparison address, and a Dessie Mathews poem. The day closed with a grand ball and strong turnout.

Prospecting near Johnson Canyon signals potential iron horse mines

W A Free, W P Jones and Owen Speara return from Johnson Canyon eleven miles northwest of Pioche where they have been completing location work on the Iron Horse group. The area lies at the Jackrabbit and Highland Mining District junction with a traceable ledge 4500 feet along six claims. Jumbo group mines nearby yielded earlier returns. Good Ore. Is Found F. W. Dickle shows copper and gold ore from the Gold Butte Mining District in Muddy Valley. The samples come from a twenty claim group recently acquired by Dickle, Geo F. Talbot, and Geo S. Brown. Assay values are pending but expected high. district leaders and buyers praise surface showings. The district attracts attention from major mining men. No U P Coal for Nevada Threatens Winter Supply

The Reno Journal reports that Reno may lack coal this winter as Union Pacific coal lands are confiscated and western railroads withdraw from mining in Utah and Wyoming. E W Clapp told Nevada Commercial League Secretary Bride that the city should seek fuel from foreign sources, such as British Columbia or Australia, to ensure heat amid government pressure and Interstate Commerce Act constraints.

Rand, a Portland real estate man and heavy stockholder in the California Pioche Mining Company, arrived to oversee continued sinking of a working shaft on the Pioche property. He believes the California Pioche site south of the Ohio ground holds strong surface showings and potential to become a leading mine in the district. Controlling interests include Wm Wheatley as president and Chas Lee Horsey as secretary and treasurer. Rand also holds interest in Knob Hill development with Chester L Probester and B Nuon among Pioche stakeholders.

Probe Chamber of Commerce Meets On Advertising Railroad Day

A regular meeting of the Probe Chamber of Commerce was held Monday evening. Routine business passed, and the group approved printing many envelopes to advertise Railroad Day. The envelopes will be distributed to business men and residents for use in correspondence. The Commerce will monitor the matter for ongoing prep. T.
