A January 2 1838 meeting in Cambridge Guernsey County Ohio formed an anti slavery society. John Carey Jr chaired. a three member committee drafted a constitution. The group named the County Anti Slavery Society and pledged to work toward abolishing slavery in the United States and ending the domestic slave trade.
