Susie and the Aristocrat and the New Life Choice

Susie, a factory clerk in a great city, meets two men after a street accident: a noble aristocrat and a strong mechanic. She is drawn toward the aristocrat through rides and romance, but faces an ultimatum about class and love. Chester Bitty declares his love and asks for marriage, while Susie contemplates a life beyond her store. The story shifts between romance and social tension as she weighs duty and desire. The piece ends noting the Latin government auctions rifles and cannons.

Wintering spores survive in mummies and cankers on branches, with first infections from these sources. Removal of infected fruit and cankers is advised followed by copper sulphate spraying and Bordeaux mixture to curb summer spread. From Illinois Experiment Station Bulletin No. 77.
