Mrs Kate Brownlee Sherwood wife of Congressman I R Sherwood died after several months illness in Washington from paralysis. Her death caused great loss to her family and to thousands across the state who knew her as brilliant and charming and a force for good in humanity.
A state highway commission conference with Wood county commissioners and others will meet in Bowling Green on Thursday to discuss rebuilding the Toledo to Perrysburg river road on the east bank. The Toledo Perrysburg highway is deteriorating and proposals include brick paving from East Toledo to Perrysburg. Commerce Club of Toledo may send a delegate.
The library board, appointed by President D. E. K. Hollenbeck, lists committees for the year. Finance includes T. M. Franey W. H. Roose and C. Finkbeiner. Library & Books list F. Averill E. L. Washington reports Philip Wetzel recommended for Perrysburg postmaster with mid March effective date due to Yeager’s pending retirement after 14 years of service. Wetzel praised as capable and courteous while Yeager’s long service is wished well. deputy appointment undecided though Miss Pierce may be chosen for faithful office work.
The Perrysburg Tile and Brick Company will divide 10 percent of its 1914 net gain among regular employees employed nine months or from April 1 to January 1 1915. The firm has added capacity improvements including a new electric clay digging machine and doubled drying capacity. J H Wilson notes tariff improvements boost business as farmers use more lime to grow bigger crops and compete with foreign products. Aloysius Wilson quips digging clay is easier than dinner.
James Stretsbury, a Civil War veteran of Co. K 40th O V I, died at his Weston home Sunday afternoon after a period of ill health and a pneumonia diagnosis. He served four years in the Union forces.
A Perrysburg Civic Association card invites residents to join as boosters while a Maumee Valley line accident injures five aboard a passenger car near the Terminal crossing. Riders Edmund Brown and William Charles, both of Perrysburg, sustain head injuries and bruises. Mrs. Coates, a Miami Children’s Home inspector, is severely hurt. Conductor Harold Lees and motorman E A Pontinn escape with minor injuries. The car is wrecked. investigators probe crossing safety and railway rules.
An old advertisement touts Chamberlain’s Tablets as a cure for chronic constipation, claiming others have been helped and urging readers to try them. The ad notes the cost as a quarter and lists dealers.
A patient from Cavendish VI praises Dr Kings New Discovery for coughs colds and lung trouble after pneumonia. Henry D Sanders recommends it for families and children. Offered at 50 cents and one dollar through J B Bucklen Co Philadelphia or St Louis.
Rev Zachman formerly of this place died after a collision near Bradner Friday afternoon. He and three ladies were returning from dinner to attend a prayer meeting when a dog appeared on the road. To avoid it the driver swerved and the car overturned, pinning him beneath. The ladies were badly but not fatally hurt. He died after being taken to Toledo hospital. funeral set for Bradner church with burial in Marion Ohio.
Laura Knaggs Keyser, 83, died Saturday at the historic Maumee Valley homestead on River Road. Entombment was in Modern Mausoleum, Ft. Meigs cemetery, Perrysburg, with relatives present. Survived by daughter Antoinette and one sister. Born in Genessee County, New York, 1881. Her marriages linked to George B. Knaggs and later G. J. Kegger, with the Maumee Valley home built 1818 by Captain Whitmore Knaggs, famed for hospitality. Funeral held Wednesday afternoon at the old home.
