Batteries B and BH of the 195th Field Artillery have rejoined the 87th Division in France and will sail for home when the division starts for port of embarkation. A cable from Lieut. Col. George Greenhalgh dated December instructs that they left Pierrefitte for Segre near Le Mans. Serge houses the 37th Division. Also notes letters from Earle Laumann and Floyd Redman describing life in France and hopes for early return.

Wood County farmers win corn honors at Columbus show
At the Columbus corn show last week Wood county farmers swept most classes. O. E. Smith of Cygnet won first prize on Reid's Yellow Dent. J. N. Easley and tenant Mr. Dean, on a Bowling Green area farm, won top prizes on Yellow Dent corn other than Reid's Leaming or Clarage. L. D. Hill of Bowling Green won best single ear. J. W. Fish of Center township won first in spring wheat and C. B. Newton of Center won first on Soybeans.

Funeral services were held in Bowling Green for John Johnston 75 who served with the 100th O V I during the Civil War. He leaves a widow and four children.

Fire damages garage in Maumee residence
Volunteer firemen battled a blaze at Fred Loesch’s West Wayne street garage triggered by a defective furnace. Smoke reached the second floor apartments of Loesch and Joseph Dennis, but flames were contained with help from Perrysburg hose and Toledo units. Loss estimated at $2,000 with furniture destroyed and two apartments unoccupied.

Red Cross Notes and War Medal Drive
The Toledo Red Cross asks members to return knitting by February 18 and to sign up with name and one dollar. Mrs S C Walbridge spoke at the recent meeting and mothers of enlisted soldiers received war medals. Soldier Dies of Flu Shortly After Arrival
Bugler Fred Kruepfel of the 69th Field Artillery Brigade died of influenza on the transport Wilhelmina after landing in Hoboken from overseas. He did not complain of illness, hoping for discharge and to reach loved ones. Frederick H. Kluepfel, son of Rev. P and Bertha Kluepfel, born October 1890 in Archbold Ohio, served as bugler in the 159th Field Artillery Brigade of the 84th Division. He worked at The Star Dry Goods Co before entering military service in May 1918 and served through training and overseas duty ending with arrival in Hoboken January 19th aboard the Wilhelmina.
