The Italian’s attorney favored a plea to avoid trial amid rumors of witness tampering and Mafia influence in Walbridge. Other court actions include Warren Kelley’s indeterminate sentence for assault with intent to rape, Maurice McCabe’s three year term for forged notes, James Limber’s shooting verdict and possible appeal, and Arthur Russell’s guilty plea to assault in lieu of stabbing charges.

Wreck of the Michigan Flyer Claims a Life Near Belmore
A derailment near Belmore on Friday evening killed one woman and seriously injured several others among 150 passengers aboard the C H and D Michigan Flyer. The wreck, caused by a rail outage, sent cars down an embankment. conductor Fred Buckhouse sustained minor injuries.

Great J. W. Butler Ditch Faces Final Settlement
Commissioners from surrounding counties met to settle the J. W. Butler joint ditch enlargement project estimated at about eighty thousand dollars. Spafford of the county opposed taxing lands flooded or near the flood line, while Bolton supported assessing all lands feeding the Jackson cut-off. A April 12 meeting at the courthouse will disclose the about four thousand nerves or ten thousand dollar difference between reports as the parties seek an amicable solution. W. W. Long presided at the session.

Committed suicide ends life of Gathel Wolke on Fifth Street
Thornton, a marshal, was summoned to Gotley Wolke’s Fifth Street home amid threats of suicide. Found Gathel Wolke, 58, dead from a two‑shot head wound with a revolver in hand. Coroner ruled death by own action. Funeral held at the deceased’s home on Wednesday.

Miss Amy Tefft aged seventeen died in East Toledo from double pneumonia and spinal meningitis after visiting her sister Mrs. Croft. She was a choir member and high school student with a promising voice. Funeral services were held at her parents home conducted by local ministers, with many friends and floral tributes.
