Trial by Jury in South Perry Over Horse Ownership
A jury in a South Perry schoolhouse last Thursday found for the defendant in a case between Marlon Friend and J W Weaver over a horse included in a sale from Lev Friend and wife. Counsel were O W H Wright for the plaintiff and Col Weldy for the defendant. The verdict followed evidence and pleas with ownership disputed and a fine against Marion’s name to the DIA, though he claimed no knowledge of the horse being listed as apart of the sale and argued it was a gift from his mother.

Destructive grass fire near town endangers properties
A fast spreading brush fire about a mile south of town burned until 9 p.m. then reflared with strong winds. Perry boys aided the effort but flames surged again. Sam Karr distinguished for valor while Mrs Henry Floyd Levi Hendrickson and Robert Woods suffered losses and blame fell on Woods for starting the blaze. Simon Steele moved into James Campbell’s former house and was named Assessor in the last election.
