No Miners Strike After Ohio Conference Accord

Ohio miners and operators reached a tentative agreement Friday evening in Columbus ending the potential strike. The Chicago 9 cent differential dispute, longstanding since last year’s convention, was settled for the present year, with the Hocking Valley and Pittsburg districts remaining at odds over run-of-mine pricing and mine conditions. The pact keeps the present scale until March 31, 1900, avoiding a walkout amid strong coal demand.
