Senator Foraker asserts his control over the Ohio Republican campaign by demanding state convention endorsement to bind the party to his re election. Gen Charles Dick resists openly but signals indorsement while pursuing anti saloon league leverage to complicate Foraker’s bid. If weakened, Grosvenor or another ambitious figure may become the party’s standard bearer. A local ad promises Kipney tablets for back pain.

A two week uproar follows sightings near No. 4 school house in Benton Township Ohio. Charlie Strait killed two dogs and wounded another after a Catamount charged, later confirmed as a catamount. Henry Gordon and Coon Keighley saw two on a rock. one escaped as the other was killed. The creature measured about four feet, thick neck, dark coat with red stripes, long claws and three quarters inch teeth. Residents fear and plan to dynamite rocks to drive them away.

Numerous visits and social outings include Miss Harriet Juergensmeier with Mrs Barron in Nelsonville and Miss Gertrude Shepard visiting Miss Chirk Amlinone. Holidays bring family gatherings, visitors, and a Christmas party hosted by Miss Florence Bright for a new guest in 1901.
