Auction or store promotion lists dress fabrics with wide discounts. Includes 80 pieces fancy figured dress goods at 3¢ per yard and 200 yds striped dress goods at 8 guinea? per yd. Various lusters, Henriettas, Nansyeiling, Serges, and Trivots priced from 12¢ to 89¢ per yard, many formerly higher. Strong emphasis on cheap per yard costs to attract buyers.
A line of cotton challies in light colors sells at 4 to 6 per yard with better ones at 6 per yard. Wool filled challies 24n wide 14c per yard, former price 20c. French challies 80 inch wide 22c per yard, former 80c. All wool challies 30 inch wide. Dark woolens 25c per yard. Cannot be found elsewhere for less than 87c, many asking 5e.
The advertisement proclaims the largest and finest satines in the valley to be closed out by August 27. Prices list 28 inch satines at 7 cents per yard, 2 inch satines at 9 cents, entire line of 25 cent satines at 17 cents, and French makes at 20 cents. It urges early culling to secure a large assortment before stock runs out.
A vendor advertises dress ginghams in stripes and plaids at 9 to 10 cents per yard alongside Toile du Nord ginghams, Lancaster ginghams, Gloucester prints, crinkle seersuckers, and other textiles. Specials include tickings denims Canton flannels and brown muslin at notably low prices with invites to compare.
An article describes wealthy New Yorkers decorating billiard rooms to match ceilings and frescoes, with blue, gray, and yellow cloths and exotic woods used in tables. It notes shifting tastes toward elaborate carving, inlaid ivory, and mother of pearl, and cites examples from Fifth Avenue mansions and society figures, including a table for Patti at Castle Craig Wales and a costly $4,000 table finished in ivory and blue.
