Oldest Hocking Valley conductor R. J. Snively dies
R. J. Snively, probably Ohio’s oldest conductor and the longest serving on the Hocking Valley line, died at Protestant Hospital in Columbus on Friday afternoon of pneumonia at age 69. He ran the first train on the line 81 years ago, retired six months ago to become assistant yardmaster at Steelton, and left a wife and one son. A thirty-first degree Mason, his funeral was held Monday at 2 PM at the son’s residence on West University Street.
