In Sacramento the governor delays executions of Hugh Smith and Alfred Paine, sending case to prison board for review after a police killing linked robbers. In Spain, insurgents push west from Bilbao toward Santander, eyeing Valmaseda as a prize amid artillery and infantry movements.
George Schwamm a 34 year old pilot travelled from San Diego to accept delivery of a large twin fuselaged Italian seaplane for passenger service to Nome Alaska He plans to fly the craft there at 150 mph with an 800 mile cruising radius and will return next year for a second plane being reconditioned in San Diego He will be joined on the Alaska flight by T O Hansen another Alaska pilot.
In Washington on June 26 President Roosevelt designated Raymond Bestvens as chairman of the U S Tariff Commission for one year starting July 1 He accepted the resignation with Robert Lincoln OBrien and other officials present
In Seattle a 61 year old meat market operator Fritz Mueller died from injuries sustained after an altercation with a federal alcohol tax unit agent Leonard Regan. The coroner ordered an inquest and questioned the agent as Mueller’s son Walter said his father was helping a needy family at the time of the disturbance.
Governor Ayers appointed Miss Alma Wretling former Nome Alaska Hospital superintendent and longtime nursing supervisor for King County Seattle as secretary of the Montana Bureau of Child and Animal Protection. Nome friends recall her leadership at the Maynard Columbus Hospital in Nome.

Assistant Chief Forester Fred Morrell returned from Alaska and said Indians would be excluded from the expanded CCC program. He noted Alaska conditions and a quota of six hundred by the Agriculture Department, and that many Indians prefer staying near home rather than camp life.

Denver dispatch reports two men sought in the spring killing of Deputy Sheriff S. R. Jackson of Lewis County Washington. Detective George Miller identifies one as Walter Seelert. Detectives were fired upon as they entered a boarding house to arrest Seelert, who escaped.
