A.J. Mueller, jeweler, pursued a blue suited thief along Lane's Way at 11 pm, aided by George Stantey. The suspect, named Thomas Welch and identified as a San Francisco past surgeon Stephens, fled with a tray of 64 nugget pins. He was captured with help from Dr. Ed Hil and Officer Standley, bound over to the grand jury on grand larceny charges with $1,000 bail unable to be posted.

The patient William A Johnstone a steerage passenger from the steamer Ohio is isolated and being removed to the pest house. He lives at Reed's house First avenue and has felt ill for days while Dr Hill calls it a mild case and precautions are taken to prevent spread. Johnstone is a Colby Washington resident on his first trip to the area.
