Ed Jones a Wilmington janitor at the Irwin Auger Bit Co office found a diamond pin valued at 2500 dollars belonging to a Columbus salesman. He refused a reward saying publicity was enough and asked the paper to tell the story.

Joseph H. Cline died at Dayton Hospital at 8 30 p m on Thursday aged 72 after nine months illness tied to old age. He lived with daughter Mrs W W Purtee at his former home. Funeral at 2 pm at the home conducted by Rev W C Peters. Burial in I O O F cemetery. Survived by two daughters Mrs Purtee and Mrs Solomon Heeter and four grandchildren.
Rev Wright delivered a sermon on Romans eight and spoke on being led by the Spirit. Christian Endeavor was led by Flossie Gilbert on the topic Being a Christian in the Home with readings from Ephesians six. Eileen Brown is scheduled to read next Sunday and community services will be held with Rev Wright as speaker.
On Sunday May 25 1924 the M. E. Church hosts a 9:00 a.m. Sunday School led by Superintendent B T Penn Sr. A 10:15 a.m. Community Memorial service follows, with 7:00 p.m. Epworth League led by President L Wright. An 8:00 p.m. community service at Friends church features a sermon by Prof Wright and G A R Post and Sons and Grandsons of Veterans will attend.
Wilmington officials condemn the water as bad and order boiling of all drinking water. No contamination source yet found. A new system to supply healthful water is being tapped and should come from newer sources within a few weeks.
F R Harris is reelected as Greenfield schools superintendent for a three year term. He is a well known Southern Ohio educator who previously served as Greenfield High School principal before becoming superintendent.
Professor C. D. Bennett is reemployed as Superintendent of the Good Hope schools. The corps that has made the school a big success is credited, and Topol Yoarg was all reelected.
The Canton County Great Prize Campaign nears the end of its second week with rising votes and strong early leaders. Contestants are urged to hustle, recruit friends, and secure subscription votes to maximize bonus offers ahead of June 28 as the campaign aims for a record Ohio participation.
The 1924 class commencements occurred Thursday May 15 at 8:00 PM in the high school auditorium. The program featured the Nicholas Orchestra Wilmington Rev John Wilson delivered the invocation Miss Virginia Hendee read the class poem Harold C Hodson gave the oration America Supreme and Paul James Terrell delivered the valedictory. Diplomas were presented by County Superintendent H W Hodson to 28 graduates including Madge A Brown Mary Ellen Bartlett Ralph K Bernard Oscar Carey and others. Benediction by Prof H J Wright.
Oil drilling operations will commence soon in Milledgeville Fayette County. David Melick and his company will finance the project. Melick has operated in Clinton County for the past two years.

Isaac Shoemaker and his wife were seriously injured when their automobile left the road at a curve near Clermont County. Their young daughter escaped unharmed from the wrecked vehicle.
The Clintons baseball team plans to open the season next Sunday afternoon at North End Park Wilmington weather permitting. Urbana, a strong Western Ohio League rival, will debut here after missing a trip to Washington and rain halted the opener against Bellefontaine. Manager Stan Arthur added several new players and hopes for sun to start the schedule.
Edward Gleason, who has worked at the News Journal in Wilmington for a year, joins The Reporter of New Vienna to study operating a country weekly. He will stay on during the contest period, a compliment to the paper and its section.

This Saturday May 24 is Poppy Day in America to honor soldiers who fell in the late war and sleep in France. The observance marks remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives in battle.

Mrs J A W Spergur of Hillsboro died last week eight weeks after her husband’s death. The couple were well known in the county. Mrs Spergur was 72 years old.
Sarah Cade Everett Cade and Hileem Brown spent Sunday in Cincinnati as guests of Clara Cade and Je Green.
