Moore and son Kent, May and Lillian Moore, Will Larrick and daughters Ethel Nettie and Emma Morris, Harrison Morris of Sabina, and Dorothy and Vivian Larrick, plus Warren Moore.
The New Vienna Reporter and Lynchburg News launch a six week contest to win a new automobile and over $2000 in prizes by selling subscriptions. Open to residents in Highland and Clinton counties with a vote based system and strict rules to keep the competition fair.
Postmaster Grant Clark is ill with pneumonia at home. Joseph Derivan remains in serious condition with fever but improved. A lightning strike on J F Hussey’s house caused a small roof fire during last Friday’s storm. Funeral attendance noted for Miss Mabel Rannells at Highland. she had moved to Greenfield. H M Leeka buys James Morris’s tile mill interest to run next season. C P Ingold named Township Treasurer to fill Coffin’s unexpired term. George Boden takes office Sept 1. Editor J J Pittser reports a small overdraft possibly affecting this issue. A prize contest by Roden Bros. awarded B W McVey 116 bushels of corn. Mose Rice’s team second but failed at the grade, earning $5.00. Gratitude message from Mrs. Jennie Holmes for fire aid. Local families from Hillsboro and Wilmington visit Dr G R Conard. Ads note shirts and window screens from local merchants.
Pupils from Washington D H schools staged a song recital on May 2 with over 260 participants taking part in the event.
The Woman's Club extends thanks to the gentlemen participants and the businessmen who advertised on the program. Miss Opal Phillips provided the music and co operated to make the event a financial success.
Alvin Stroup a former Lynchburg boy now with the State Dry forces tells officers that Roy Simpkins another former Lynchburg man and lifelong friend offered him a $200 bribe. An investigation is underway.
Benjamin Gardner, described as a Chillicothe camp man, was under arrest and in the custody of an officer when he sprang from a moving automobile in front of the Parker Hotel in Hillsboro a few days ago and escaped in a sensational incident.
Washington D H High School athletes prepare for a big track meet at the fairgrounds on May 10 drawing great local interest and participation.
A large class of 25 boys and girls is to be graduated this year from Sa bina High School. The ceremony marks a milestone for the school and its students as they complete their studies this year.
Mrs. Stanley E. Harris hosted 17 members with a program on The Home Garden by Mrs. W. T. Matthews and a book review of Will Irwin's Christ or Mars read by Mrs. Daily Smith. A reading What Have You Done Today was given by Mrs. Helen Milner. The business session set aside 300 for opera house redecorating. Visitor Lettice Arthurs attended.
The May 8 Union Grange No. 71 schedule features talks on beautifying home grounds with roses shrubs perennials and annuals. Speakers include H C Sanders PSM TEE Garce Polk Lou Clark and C Leo Mary H. Terrell. Earl Kerr opens barber shop in Sabina after moving from Martinsville.
Under Charles supervision the Snow Hill farm of 66 acres, recently bought by Mrs. George Dent Crabbe of Cincinnati, is being sown to Kentucky blue grass.
Katherine McDonald stars in the First National attraction White Shoulders at New Vienna Opera House Saturday night. The costume ball recalls the glittering Sixties with a memory lane theme for audiences.
Emery Shepherd led last Sunday’s Christian Endeavor meeting. Flossie Gilbert was appointed as the next leader. Her topic will be being a Christian in the home.
Robert Porter son of Reverend Porter will preach at the Christian church next Sunday. His sermon title is Mother.
