Edgar Thomas of Rainsboro received a sixty day jail term from Federal Judge Hickenlooper in Cincinnati after pleading guilty to possessing a still. The sentence was suspended to October 10 to allow harvest of a tobacco crop, prompting a countywide manhunt when Thomas fled to a creek. He later surrendered to authorities.
Kathrena Williams eldest daughter of George and Mia Williams married Paul Sherman Bauer of Lynn Massachusetts at St Bar nabas Episcopal church Havana on June 18 The Rt Rev Alder White officiated with Fr W Hy Kaltenbach assisting A reception followed at the bride’s parents South Plum street home and a bridal tour was planned after.
The Lynchburg Canning Company plant is rapidly nearing completion with much machinery installed. The new facility will have a capacity of 5,000 cans a day and sits amid 800 acres of sweet corn in the Lynchburg area with a large crop expected this spring boosting local farmers' income.
Osborn of Greenfield, one of six Highland County Jail escapees from Hillsboro on May 11, was captured in Chillicothe last Sunday. He was recognized by detective Ro and taken into custody. Sheriff unseith notified and returned him to Hillsboro. Og horns charged with burglary and larceny for breaking into the Greenfield Janira Store. He claimed work as a farmer near Circleville since escaping. This marks the fourth prisoner recaptured. two remain at large, James Vanham of Greenfield and Elmer Holtz of Leesburg, both charged with burglary and larceny.

George Curtis aged 51 died at his Portland home last Saturday after ill health from influenza. He was found in a cistern behind the house and believed to have fallen in. A well known local of a family of six children, he was brother to Will A Curtis and Frank Curtis, with sister Mrs Lucy Mathews. Funeral held Monday at 6 pm at his home. interment in Portland cemetery. Attendees from New Vienna included A A Curtis and family, Harley Smith, Mrs Winnie Clark and family, Thelma Wright, and several Curtis relatives.
A pilot limestone soil study at Harry Donahue’s Blanchester farm shows two tons applied on a 165 acre field with alternating treated rows. Sweet clover alsike red clover and timothy planted perpendicularly reveal the treated plots vastly outgrow untreated sections, supporting limestone value for soil fertility.
Miss Mary Rowe daughter of Mr and Mrs John A Rowe of the community wed S Mr Bide in Lisbon Ohio. Rowe, a New Vienna High School graduate, studied at Miami University and taught in the Struthers system. Erich, a Ohio University graduate, is an athletic coach in mechanical drawing at a high school. They will reside at 805 Elm Street.
Mrs Rice visits Highland parents while Mrs Haley tourist week. The New River Band played a lively concert at Se bina with guests including Blanch Turher of Martinsville. Families gathered at Geo Netting eye and Genial Geo Wsborn to enjoy the event. The town buzzed as merchants profited from a crowded Saturday night band concert.
The State Civil Service Commission in Columbus Ohio schedules a special examination at the State House on Tuesday July 21 for applicants to the newly created Chair of the Division of Examiners of Steam Engineers in the Department of Industrial Relations. Salary is 8600 annually. A bulletin with full details will be mailed free to interested parties.
The Dewey Brothers elevator at East Monroe was sold this week to C W Thompson, owner of a local general store. Thompson will run the grain market as before, buying grain and selling feeds in connection with his mercantile business. The 6000 bushel capacity building was built in the 1860s and previously served as a store.
On June 86 the Clinton Covfnty club toured Columbus visiting the University grounds. Morning activities included a farm exhibit and a library museum tour. Afternoon visits covered the statehouse large department stores and a campus lunch.
