A plan to use a large office window for promoting the New Vienna Reporter includes a window display and a sign inviting patients to subscribe for $2.00 per year. The Citizen-Reporter Co announces a new Speed-Graphic camera and a local photo feature once the dark room is ready.
New Vienna defeated Kingman 31 to 23 Friday night at the New Vienna gym. Cluxton and Carey each scored 11 for New Vienna, Harner led Kingman with 14. New Vienna reserves beat Kingman reserves 27 to 13.
The Union Grange meets December 11 in the Grange Hall at 8:00 for a business meeting and an evening program starting at 9:00. Program events include roll call health contest special music and a trip feature with Priscilla Blackburn and Mr and Mrs William Levo.
The Miami Valley Quartette performs at Mt Olive Church of Christ on Sunday December 14 at 7 30 P M. The group is highlighted as among the best on radio and will be heard from WINQ Dayton 1410 Sundays 7 45 to 8 00 and over WJEL Springfield 1600 Sundays 9 05 to 9 30.
Rev. Clarke L. Gowdy 69 pastor of Blanchester Methodist Church died in his sleep from a heart ailment. Last rites set for Saturday at 2 PM at Blanchester Methodist Church with Rev. George B. Parkin in charge. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery Glendale Cincinnati. Survived by widow Clara Mae Gowdy son Charles M. of Lockland and brother Wilbur of Indianapolis. Gowdy began ministry in 1904 and served Blanchester since spring after previous post at North College Hill.
New Vienna sent delegates to the Dedication Services at the Leesburg Grange on Tuesday night. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Terrell Mr and Mrs Earl Cochran and Miss Geneva Johnson attended the program.
Thomas Swingley suffered a crushed forearm after his arm became caught in a corn picker at the Charles Elliott farm on Saturday afternoon. He was alone at the time and remained inside the picker for about forty five minutes before being attended by Dr. L H Fullerton.
Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Floyd Carey and their family were Mr and Mrs Jake Wolfe of Roundhead.
New Vienna residents Joe cee George Irwin and Joe Frump were each fined 10 dollars plus 8.70 costs after May hearings in W F Woodmansee's court for intoxication. They were committed to Highland County Jail in lieu of payment after Robert Davis reported the incident at his restaurant where they demanded bar service and became disorderly.
The American Friends Service Committee and Harvard professor Henry J Cadbury will travel to Oslo to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for 1947 awarded by the Norwegian Parliament. Cadbury acted as official delegate for the American division, with the Friends Service Council of London also receiving its share of the prize money. The Norwegian ambassador hosted a December 10 dinner in New York.
Santa Claus visits New Vienna on Christmas Eve at the park and Friday December 19 at the school with presents for children. The Lions Club Legion post and Women's Club sponsor a townwide Christmas program with a lighted square tree and music broadcast. The event runs December 20 through January 1. Lions and Legion committees met to set details. James Porter and Russell Fenwick for Lions Vaughn Huffman for Legion. The Legion offers a $5 prize for best decorated business house. Lions awards prizes for top three homes. Funds come from local businessmen and can contributions in business houses.
The New Vienna chapter of the Eastern Star will install its officers Tuesday evening December 16 at the Masonic Hall. A 6:00 pot luck supper precedes the installation, and the annual Christmas party with gift exchange will follow. All members are urged to attend.
Mt Olive Crusaders face Dayton's Carl's Body Shop at New Vienna High School gym Saturday night December 13 at 8 00.
Mrs Henry Rhonemus has returned to her home from Cincinnati where she underwent a minor operation and has been convalescing for several weeks at the home of her son and daughter in law Harold Rhonemus.
Mary Jane and Martha Jo Ames spend the week with Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Hunt near Wilmington. Clair Ames and family were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wendall Milburn in Belfast. Wilbur Ellis and daughter visit Wilmington, and Charles Hendee visits Mr. and Mrs. William Hendee in Lynchburg.
Thursday evening guests at Mrs. Geneva Phillips included Miss Martha Johnson and another young woman. The gathering was a social drop in event with light refreshments and conversation among neighbors.
