New Vienna traveled to Martinsville on Wednesday night and built a 10 point first half lead, extending it to 32 by the final whistle. Claxton led with 14 points, while Carey and Huffman added 12 and 11 respectively. New Vienna Reserves also defeated Martinsville Reserves 24 to 14 for their third win.
Fairview Friends Church gathered funds and donations last Sunday to support CARE packages for Central Europe. Members contributed 750.50 dollars in cash and shipped goods including clothing, shoes, soap, sewing kits, and candles, with guest speaker Merton Scott outlining Peace Board efforts.
Martinsville High School selects the three act mystery American Eagle as this year’s junior class play. Tonight at 8:00 p.m. in the school auditorium the cast led by Rosalie Rankin Norma Hodson and Raymond Turner performs in the Palmer Aviation Company office setting with U S secret agents and foreign saboteurs among the seemingly innocent. The junior girls provide special music.
The New Vienna Grange is invited to the Leesburg Grange dedication at Leesburg Grange Hall on Tuesday evening December 9 at 8 00. Robert Shanks pres of Leesburg Grange issued the invitation with state figures Joseph Fichter and Lorén Hynes also invited. A pot luck supper will follow with each family to bring a covered dish and table service.
Green Township residents will gather at the New Vienna school on Monday at 8 p.m. to elect community committeemen and delegates to the county convention. Clark Township members meet at the Martinsville township house at 8 p.m. to discuss next year’s farm program and encourage all farmers to attend.
A Xenia Hillsboro bus driven by Floyd Smalley near New Vienna collided with a Martinsville car driven by Raymond Thornburg on Route 68 two miles south of Xenia. No injuries reported. State patrol at Wilmington cited icy road conditions as the cause.

They attended Saturday morning services for Pauline Sears Yeant of Sullivan Ohio who died at her mother Goldie Sears home in Columbus. Interment was in Fetoheed. com of i oe a 5 Wom.
One hundred eleven hogs died in a Tuesday night fire that destroyed the Cook barn near Careytown. The blaze, not electrified and under investigation, caused about 8000 dollars in damages to the near-complete cement-block structure built by Ellis and Elmer Cook.
Judge Wright of New Vienna seeks reelection to Probate Judge as a Republican in the May primaries. He currently holds a four year term. Attorney Harlan H. Johnson of Wilmington announces candidacy for the same office.
Mrs. Frances Naylor 86 died Tuesday after a five week illness at her son’s Leesburg home. Born July 13 1861 Lafayette Indiana she leaves two sons Arthur Leesburg and Harry Monroeville and two daughters Esta Woods Lees Creek and Mrs Robert Greene Springfield. Funeral Friday 2 pm at Mrs Woods Lees Creek with interment New Antioch Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Merrill Williams of Leesburg have purchased the Leaverton home on South Street Greenfield. The Williams family and their son Charles are former residents of New Vienna.
Martinsville Grange announces its annual Christmas party for Wednesday December 10 at 8 PM location details incomplete. Organizers invite members and guests to attend and celebrate with seasonal activities.
Hillsboro defeated Martinsville 66 to 37 in the Martinsville gym to start the season. Davis led Hillsboro with 17 points while Martinsville guard West scored 11.
Mrs. Stella Woodmansee Powell 66 died Friday in Springfield City Hospital. Rites at Highland Methodist Church at 2 30 p m Sunday. burial in Highland Cemetery. Born 1881 daughter of E T and Margaret Walker Woodmansee. married to Robert R Powell October 1898. Survived by two sons a daughter and brother Richard Woodmansee of Highland.
Mrs. William Thornburg announced Monday that plans are underway for a Christmas Community Program to be held at the local Methodist Church.
Clifford Chaney has moved to Fresno California. The new residence details are not fully specified in the notice.
The New Vienna liquor election held November 4 is challenged in Clinton County Common Pleas Court by a large group of plaintiffs. They allege improper ballot sealing theft and tabulation irregularities and seek rulings on whether beer and liquor may be sold. A recount confirmed the tie vote to exclude all beer and liquor except 3.2 percent beer.
Daryl O. Hunter, voag teacher at New Vienna, elected president of the Clinton County Teachers' Association succeeding Donald Davis of Kingman. Other officers named include Dean Kelly of Martinsville as vice-president and Mrs. Phyllis Gilliam of Martinsville as secretary after school balloting.
