Mayor W. H. Patton announces the county wide policy to remove punch boards and pinball machines from Leesburg and all towns. Prosecuting Attorney Hottle notes gambling concerns and urges residents to report devices to the mayor or Chief Hiser to protect youth.
The New Vienna deputy registrar announces licenses expire on your first birthday after September 30, 1950. No Columbus notices. renew within 30 days before birthday. Chauffeur licenses require a new 2 by 2 inch unretouched photo showing head and shoulders with space for signature. photos valid for three years.
Senior Girl Scout Troop toured Fort Ancient on Thursday enjoying a picnic at noon and hiking trails. Participants included Shirley Carey Brenda Fullerton Janet Humphrey Barbara Burton Evelyn Saunders Margaret Racford Shirley Achor Mary Lou Dodd led by Mrs Earl Cochran with Mrs Floyd Carey and guest Mike Maloney from Columbus. Next meeting set for Thursday at 2 PM at Grange Hall.
Mrs Ramona DeRemer daughter of Charles J. Moore presented ident twin grandsons David John and David Forrest on Aug 14. Their parents are Mr and Mrs A C DeRemer of Detroit. Fairfield High School Class of 1940 reunion set for Sunday Aug 27 at Leesburg Road Side Park. Edward Hamilton Coast Guard man stationed Cincinnati on leave returning to duty Friday.
Senator Robert A. Taft accepts invitation to address Adams Brown Clinton and Highland counties Soil Conservation District supervisors at the Devore home near Winchester on Monday August 28 1950 A country picnic supper at 5 00 P M and Taft speech about 6 00 P M followed by a Republican meeting at Georgetown Brown County Fairgrounds. Organizers include Earl KK Devore Earl Meranda Earl Murphy James Moore Julian McKenzie and J Harold McKenzie.
Laymon Herd from near New Vienna wins multiple ribbons at the Ross County Fair Ayrshire cattle show in Chillicothe. Jacque Laymon’s two-year-old heifer Rob-Lay’s Valentine Request calves a new heifer Rob Lay's Pre eminent Violet. They claim champion senior yearling female and reserve champion three-year-old bull, plus top awards across three-year and two-year classes.
The Union Grange Booth which won first at Clinton County Fair will display the same exhibit at the State Fair. Committee members include Emerson Johnson, J S McKenzie, Willard McKenzie, and John Robertson. Chester Grange, second place, and Martinsville Juvenile, first place, will also exhibit at the State Fair.
Edith W Riggin 71 wife of Edson Riggin of Dayton died at Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton Sunday night after a heart attack. She was born in Centerfield raised in New Vienna and survived by husband three daughters two sisters a brother and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 PM at Baker Funeral Home Dayton with Rev Michael Eckert officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery Dayton.
Funeral services were held at the Smith Funeral Home in New Vienna for George W Osborne 84 who died in the Masonic Home at Springfield. Born February 27 1876 he was married October 18 1889 to Iva Shannon. He leaves no near relatives. He was a traveling salesman and a former New Vienna Post Office worker. Burial in New Vienna I O O F Cemetery.
Sheriff Howard C. Botts announced Deputy Burch Stonaker has resigned effective Wednesday August 28 1950. Stonaker passed his physical for the draft and expects to be called soon. Botts said there is no replacement available at present.
The New Vienna Merchants face Ohio Consolidated Telephone Co in the second game of the New Vienna Tournament tonight. Hillsboro All-Stars meet Xenia Lehays in the opener as strong attendance marks the event sponsored by the New Vienna Lions Club with finals expected next Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence New brey of near Memphis were Friday evening visitors of the Del bert West family.

The Southern Ohio Tool and Die Company plant is being repainted with Jim Mongold and Gene Tilton handling the work. It marks the first refresh in about 15 years for the well known fabricator of farm gates fence stretchers fish poles and netting for fishing bait.
Harold H. Vible of New Vienna took the oath as Attorney and Counselor At Law from Chief Justice Carley Weygandt in the State House Supreme Court Room Columbus. He is son of C J Vible and resides in New Vienna with his wife and daughter Catherine. He earned a BBA from Adelbert College Western Reserve and law degree from Western Reserve University. He has been involved in Wells Mfg. Co. with his father and plans to start his law practice in New Vienna.
Donnie and Tommy Robertson stay with Mr. and Mrs. Emery Rhoads as their mother remains a patient at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati.

Howard Tolle former seed store proprietor at Hillsboro died in Fort Myers Florida Tuesday morning at 9 30 C S T He is survived by his wife one son one daughter his mother Mrs John Tolle and one brother Elbert Tolle Hillsboro Funeral Director Funeral services will be held at the Evans and Tolle Funeral Home Friday year two M Burial in Leesburg He was a relative of the Holmes family of Leesburg.
Mrs Nil L McVey is reported much improved after being taken suddenly ill Tuesday evening, with medical staff noting steady progress and no complications observed.
William A. Smalley 72 of Rt. 62 near Theobald's Crossing died at Miami Valley Hospital Dayton Friday night after major surgery. He was born May 21 1878 in Dry Run Scioto County and leaves a widow four sons two daughters two sisters and a brother. Funeral at White Oak Church Tuesday 10 AM Rev A E Huntington officiating. Burial in Fairborne Cemetery Dayton under Parrett Funeral Home Washington C H.
A Norfolk and Western passenger train struck and killed four people at a grade crossing south of Columbus. The Mongold family, Mr and Mrs Melvin C Mongold and their children Rickey Linn and Brenda, were residents of Pickaway county. Funeral services for the couple and a list of relatives from New Vienna Westboro Lynchburg Martinsville Greenfield and nearby areas followed.
The Redeemers Class of the Methodist Church has postponed the meeting to September 6 at the home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Bernard.
Charles P. Taft, prominent Cincinnati figure, will be principal speaker at the second summer vesper service at Hillsboro High School athletic field on Sunday August 27. Taft has confirmed the engagement.
Charles H. Teter 67, longtime Leesburg clerk and former theater operator, died Wednesday night in Greenfield Municipal Hospital after a heart attack. Born April 4 1883 in Chillicothe, he lived most of his life in Leesburg and belonged to the Greenfield Elks and Leesburg Masons. Surviving are his widow Del and sister Miss Mary Teter. Funeral services Saturday at 2 PM from Patterson Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Milner. burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after noon today.
Mr and Mrs P F Christy and Mrs W N Wertzberger of La Grange Missouri attended a family reunion in Cincinnati Sunday. The event drew relatives from the area.
H A Barrett owner of R P Barrett and Son feed store Leesburg announced he purchased M G Sexton coal business and will operate it from the present feed store until a new elevator is completed. Sexton who has run Leesburg coal for 13 years sold his business and equipment and will stay with Barrett briefly. Barretts plan to offer a full coal line and same service as Sexton.
Rev. M. L. Bogard resigns as pastor of the Leesburg Pilgrim Holiness Church and will leave the community next week. His successor will be Rev. FE. E. Leadingham of Kentucky. Bogard came to Leesburg two years ago from Clarksburg Ohio and will bid a farewell during Sunday night services.
The New Vienna Packing Co plant opened Monday and will operate for approximately weeks. Eighty persons are employed. The plant cans 60 000 to 65 000 cans of corn daily, with 300 acres under contract. Owners are Wm. T. Creamer, Ted Vandervort and Bill Robinson, all of Wilmington. Canning plants at Leesburg and Lynchburg are not in operation this year.
The late J. M Coffey of Leesburg filed a probate will naming three church bequests to White Oak Methodist Greene Two Martinsburg Methodist and Christian Union Washington D. H. He directs sale of his Leesburg home and goods. bequests list multiple heirs with varied amounts. Executor named as nephew Howard Coffey. Will dated July 21 1950.
Six registered Jerseys in Homer C. Bohl’s Home-Wood Jersey Farm near New Vienna were classified by Arthur R. Porter for the American Jersey Cattle Club. The six animals, all unclassified females with calves or bulls over two years old, scored one very good four good plus and one good as the club aims to help breeders improve conformity to the breed standard.
WPFB broadcast hears Farm Roundup Monday to Friday at noon with livestock quotes from Cincinnati Stock Yards. Frank Durham and Elmer Hinkle present grain market updates and weather plus news on Grange Farm Bureau 4-H and other rural activities.
