Merrill Williams has been ill for some time but remains about the same.

Miss Doris Jane Hamilton of Memphis has been awarded a three year scholarship to the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing by the Women's Relief Corps. She is a Wayne Township High School graduate, and her sister Judy Hamilton previously earned a similar scholarship and also graduated from Deaconess Hospital. The Hamilton girls are granddaughters of the late John Lafferety, an Indian war veteran who lived to 103.

Three Clinton county youths James VanDevort Harold Smalley and Robert Ferneau have earned spots in the All State Band at the Ohio State Fair August 26 to September 1. They will travel to Columbus a week early for rehearsals with the group. The Clinton County 4 H Band under Rodger O Borrer also plans a Fair appearance. Laymon and family near New Vienna led the Ayrshire entries at the Scioto County Fair in Loucasville winning grand champion bull Rob Lay's Preeminent Duane and grand champion cow Birdwood Nu-Mode. The herd earned multiple firsts including three year old bull and cow and two year old cow, with several other prizes. J. M. Coffey Dies Suddenly in Leesburg
Joseph Marion Coffey, longtime Leesburg resident and former village council member, died at home after a heart attack on Tuesday. Born June 8, 1868 in Fayette County, he leaves two foster daughters and was active in the Methodist Church Lions Club and Masons. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 p.m. at Patterson Funeral Home with burial at the local cemetery.
